OK, thanks. The berries definitely look like chokecherries.

I tasted the berries and they are not good tasting ones… Any idea how people use them or for what?

Jam or syrup. Turns into a completely different thing when cooked and sugar added, absolutely delicious

Some people also make chokecherry wine, never had a chance to try that though

My Oma would make jam and syrup, and Opa would make the chokecherry wine. As said, it's very good when prepared right. That wine could sneak up on you. Especially if you were a teen, and sneaking some with your cousins.

Or, so I've heard.

They're nice trees but sure are prone to black knot. I've lost a couple over the years. My neighbour's four are beautiful though!

My whole neighbourhood is lined up with these trees! I can make a killing selling the berries, lol!
Does anybody have a good recipe how to prepare them? I don’t trust YouTube anymore…But I wouldn’t mind to try making a jam…

Yep I had two of them when we lived in Airdrie and I had to have a tree guy come and trim off the black knot and fortunately it seemed to have worked. At least after a couple years none had come back but apparently you always have to watch for it.

I have 14 bottles of chokecherry wine left from a batch I made a few years ago.

I've given several bottles to neighbors and they think it's great.

I also did several quarts of chokecherry syrup but it's all gone now.

I only use wild chokecherrys. I don't even know if there is any of the Schubert trees around here.

Thanks Redfrog.
