Default Were you strapped in school?

I hope the last thread gets deleted - forgot the poll!

At point, getting the strap was just part of being in school (at least for most boys).

The along came Dr. Spock, modern psychology and political correctness.

The strap disappeared out of most school systems.

My guess is most have that got it when reflecting back deserved it at least some of the time.

After filling in the poll, let's here your thoughts.

Yep, once. Threw a snowball at a girl and she complained. But, I did hit her.

I got it a few times all well deserved. Was a slow learner lol. I think they should bring it back in to the school start putting some fear back into these kids.

I recall the wooden spoon at home a scant few times. I know now my Dad never had much comfort doling that kind of discipline out, and I can't recall one after my parents split when I was 7. Never got it at school (Calgary, 1975-1988)

Got it 3 times. Fighting in grade 2, fighting in grade 9 and swearing in grade 9.

Was not really a deterrent at all for me. Almost got it again for throwing snowballs one year. And to think I was just a few points behind our valedictorian.

It wasnt the strap at school we worried about, it was the call to my folks they made. Man it made for a ugly, dreadfull walk home. In those days parents took a interest

I received the strap a few times. The worst was the strap from the shop teacher. And our librarian use to use the yard stick and usually across the nuckles. I really think they should have it back in schools.

Yes , resons for strap were: Not participating in games outdoors.
Having your hands in your pants pockets
Writeing in scribbler margin
ETC
If you were a female:
Getting caught uptown with short sleeve blouse and above the knee pants ON Saturday OR the weekend down the street from YOUR home.
I won,t even go into the other punishments: Most wouldnt believe them anyway!

Got it a few times, When the principal would strap me he would always say 'this hurts me more than it hurts you' I'd say 'then why you doing it', that would make him mad and he give me twice as many. I remember old Mrs. Rathburn, my grade 5 teacher, seemed like she was about 85 years old to a little feller like me, anyway one day she decided she was gonna give me the strap for something or other I did, or at least attempt to, she grabbed my wrist and lifted her other arm up high with the strap and gave it all she had, only thing was she wasn't very accurate and missed my hand and got herself real good across the inside of her wrist, I thought she broke it, she went down glasses flying and I ended up with the strap in my hand trying to help the poor woman up off the floor.

The strap used to be used often when I went to elementary school, they didn't put up with much foolishness in those days. Every morning after roll call we had the health inspection then we'd take our cod liver oil capsules then we recited the Lords Prayer. Teacher would walk around to every desk and inspect to see your hands were washed, finger nails clean, your nose wasn't running, that you had washed behind your ears combed your hair and such. If you had dirty hands more than two days in a row you would get the strap.

I was.

It was in grade 4. The person next to me farted at a school assembly, and I giggled.

I believe to this very day I was assaulted, and this has left a scar on me for the rest of my life.

Thats the problem nowdays most parents don't care what their kids are doing in school as long as the kids aren't bothering them they don't care what they do.

So you don't think me dipping girls pony tail in my ink well and getting caught deserved the strap?

Gee, even at the time I knew I deserved it. It's called immediate consequences.

That is not a bad thing, and although THIS lil' Johnny was a sweetheart and mama knew he never did wrong, this lil' Johnny fooled mama sometimes. Maybe your lil' Johnny does too.

The strap, the ruler, the pointer, and the coach's foot.

The worst was when you were sent behind the house to cut your own switch. Too twitchy and it would sting like hell.Too much mass left bruises. Lots to consider while you picked your poison...and if you took too long it increased the number of lashes. Tough choices for a kid to make. If you hurried sometimes you were shown clemency, some times not. School didn't teach me discipline my family did.

Yes. Quite a few times. We had catholic NUNS for teachers for the most part and being boys we did not start out with an even field. I have to say they were the most awefull, inconsiderate humane deings on earth. Not a very good example of christianity. I think maybe it was just being frustrated old b***ches. Very mean.

Yes I am serious, these teachers are responsible for your kids and if your kid is not listening and causing trouble your going to come from work just to discipline your kid?

Yes. Quite a few times and for trivial things. Catholic nuns for teachers. Mean, inconsiderate FRUSTRATED old b***ches. Very anti-male biased. Poor example of christianity. Still hate them 40some years out of school.
