Not sure about steak, I never buy them, I do a better steak at home, but Montana's cook house has the best ribs around.

Chop Steakhouse on the corner of Barlow and Mcknight. Although they do have these in Ontario now as well.

There is one in Chinook center as well, but I find freestanding restaurants are usually better.

the most ALBERTAN place has to be the BAR U ranch on sundays for their prime rib. then you can wander around the ranch or go on the hay ride

You obviously never had an amazing steak around these parts. Average amongst the good ones.

Had enough steak to ruin any colon in 11 years of dining out with clients and friends.

Half the taste comes from the presentation and atmosphere.
Take her to lake louise and go to the restaurant in that big hotel there.
You'll knock her socks off for sure.

I know you asked for steak, however, if you're in black diamond, be sure to stop past Grillo's for a pizza. If you want Chinese, try the Grand Pearl Seafood Restaurant just off of Deerfoot and 64th street ne.

I don't tend to eat out for steak much. I grow better stuff than most restaurants can get.

The Keg makes a good consistent steak, I use them as a measuring stick for all steak houses.

Vintage was good. Saltlik over Hy's. If you happen to make a side trip to bc cattle company in fernie has a hell of a porterhouse. Gotta try longview one of these days.
I also use the Keg as the benchmark steak, always consistent.

The Longview steakhouse is voted the best steak in Canada. They also have a nice suite, so you could combine a night with a good steak and wander into the kananaskis for a drive or a hike. If that doesn't convince her ....get a new wife !

Well, if your passing through Strathmore , you could try The Station...
Just off the Hwy in a strip mall.

Okay, I just checked this place out thoroughly. This is the place to go. Steak is out of this world, and on multiple websites it receives off the chart ratings. As Calgarychef said, drive a loop through Kananaskis country, abd then back to Cowtown on the TransCanada. If that doesn't convince her, then nothing will. Nothing.

Lot of good folks in that neck of the woods where deer hunters meet up with bird hunters and if you are lucky enough to be there when Joe and his buddies take over the barbecue pit and the smell and taste of stuffed goose and pheasant breast fill the place you will think you died and went straight to heaven.

Just an FYI from one of your earlier posts. I commute to downtown Calgary everyday from okotoks. I leave my house at 6am and I'm parked in my parkade by 645. I leave downtown at 4pm and i'm in my front door no later than 5pm.

Here's another vote for the Bar U restaurant. Food is great and it's worth the drive just to see the life size bronze in the parking lot.

^Not sure if that is a seafood-specific place or not...but...we do OK for seafood options here in the GTA. (Greater Toronto Area) My favorite place here is a restaurant called Rodney's Oyster House, though everyone calls it "Rodney's". He built a location in Calgary too, but from what I've read online...it's not as seafood-centric as the one is here. I also grew-up in the east coast a 20 minute walk from the ocean, so good seafood is always on the mind...and easier to get than a good steak.

Default Longview or bust

Go to Longview steakhouse. Book 3+ weeks in advance if you need a weekend. Family owned and operated, alberta beef in alberta cattle country - you can't beat it!

It's the best steak you'll ever eat, worth every penny.

You want a good steak in Alberta, make sure the beef isn't from Alberta.

I'm so sick and tired of hearing "Alberta has the best beef". Poppy-Coolaid!

I've never had a good steak in Alberta. I'm convinced all Alberta beef comes to the table by way of a rodeo!

Yup. This place is legendary, and if you want the western atmosphere... I've not been to it since they opened the new place, but looks like it would have magnificent mountain views. And take her for a pre-dinner drink at the hotel there... rustic western Alberta.

It's not seafood specific. However, there are a few market price seafood dishes. It's reasonably priced for the area, and the food is top notch. I drug 11 other people there once. All but 2 said that it was the best chinese they'd had. The next time there were in calgary for a few days, they went there every day for supper.
