Default Pond close to Ponoka/Wetaskiwin?

A friend of mine wants to get his 8 year old son a fishing rod for his birthday this weekend. So on Sunday he was hoping to take him fishing.
Does anyone know where he can go and possible catch fish from shore? He lives between Wetaskiwin and Ponoka.

Thanks

Yeah its only five mins from town. Pretty tough for them to fish from shore. I guess they could fish the spillway.

I seem to remember driving through Ponoka and seeing people fishing in the pond in the middle of town. Don't quote me on that, but it might be worth checking with the town to see if it is stocked.

Pretty sure the pond in Ponoka is stocked Rocky. Also there is Mound Red Park, travel West on 611 and follow the signs.

Isn't there a campground with a pond on the Est edge of town on why 13?
When did they fill up Mound Red? It was drained for a few years.

Yes I frogot about the Lions campground on the north east side of Wetaskiwin.
Mound Red has had water in in for at least the past five years. Not sure about the draining of it.

They drained and refilled it about 6 yrs. ago. I can remember when that thing was full of pike.... 25 yrs. ago. First and last time I stuck my finger in a jack fishes mouth.
