Default Can am renegade

Ive been contemplating buying one, most likely used so for those of you who own them, can you tell me if they are a better quad than a Yamaha grizzly? I'm just getting it for riding around, I have a newer Ranger side by side for hunting and hauling. I've owned both s grizzly 660 and 700 and liked them both, but this new purchase will be just for trail riding so I don't need racks.

Pull the wheels on them to see if it needs anything also bring a small jack to check the front end, 650cc or how big? They are a good machine.

I've road my buddies 660 and a renegade. You would think there was a 400 cc difference in the two. Renegade is very snappy and fast.

Ya, my 660 even felt sluggish compared to my 700. I don't want to clutch a grizzly or or mess with the pipe or chip it, I want something I can just rip around with, something I can wheelie without effort.

I think they are pretty good that way, can't wheelie with a grizzly. If you don't swamp ride them. My neighbor has two of them 800 & the 1000 ridden hard haven't heard anything bad he loves them. Like I said you could always take it to a shop to inspect $100.00 could save you some grief.

Get one that has had the through shaft upgraded, the stock shaft can snap surprisingly easy. With aggressive tires, it throws a lot of mud onto the machine and rider. They are loud, with the new helmit law, that shouldn't be an issue.

Had an outlander 400; power of other brands 500's.

Now own a "slightly" bigger Outty. Thought about a Renegade, but the Outty Max is built for me and the wife. My new one wheelies if I really try, but considering it weighs over 1000 pounds, I prefer to keep it on the ground.

My buddy has an Outty Max 800; great gobs of power and lighter than mine. Renegades are lighter than Outtys and will be better handling and slightly more responsive.

As far as reliability, I beat that old 400, and nothing happened to it; in fact it's now part of my brothers collection and still going as strong as ever.

J.

Edit: the racks on the Outty do come in handy...

The Renegade is a sport machine. Is that what you want?

Ya, I have a Ranger, my son has a Kodiak 450 so I figured I pick up a quad to go ride with him. Like I said earlier, I can use my Ranger for hunting or working, I just want a renegade to rip around on.

Go for it. It will rip circles around that Kodiak and then some.

I have never owned one but I have ridden with a couple of them. They are a good machine, just do your home work before purchasing one. I think it was 2012 that was prone to frame cracks at one point on it. If you plan on buying new or slightly used I would recommend the XMR as they come stock with extra features and enhancements. Speaking of can am in general they do make a good reliable product, I have owned a 2007 max xt 400cc, 2012 xmr 800cc and a 2015 xmr 1000cc. All have never left me stranded in the bush and other than by my own doing have never failed mechanically.

You won't be disappointed. My son has the 800 X. They are suited more for fun than work.

My sisters BF at the time had this same atv and in an 800. This was 4 yrs ago. I only know of the utility quad Can Am sells for hunting and have rode friends Can am 800's in that platform.

If you want fun, the Renegade is a beast. Super fun, can get them with a little tote box behind the seat which is nice for water, lunch or misc stuff.

If I wanted a trail rider, I would seriously look at a Renegade. Can't remember if you can fit a winch on them. Others or a dealer will know.

Your contemplating a fun ride.

Search Kijiji Red Deer. Buddy from work has his kids 2015 listed for sale. Only 150km on it. Asking $9500. Would most likely take a little less.

I have a 2012 Outlander 1000 and its the same machine under the plastic for frame, engine, and drivetrain. I have almost 8000km on mine, and have 6 friends who have the Renegade also. Like all the main brand machines, each has there plus and minuses. The Biggest issues with the Can Am's are the Brake Pads, but I do believe after 2016 they come stock with better ones. Fairly cheap fix to get a set of Aftermarket ones. The other problem issue I seen is that after 2000km you need to change out the plastic Bushings as they wear out quickly. But you can get from Garage Products a replacement set and once installed and you never need to grease them. I have 5000km on my set and still can't get one pump of grease into the zerks and they are still as tight as the first day. They use a high grade of material and it works. Other than that the engine and drive train have been flawless and had no issues with any problems. I have had to replace the Ball joints after 6000km, but that is a lot of hard riding in the mountains and they are a wearable part. Can't except not to put in any maintenance into the quad, no different from you car. All other items I had to replace was from drive error (Tie-Rods) but hey, you have to pay to play hard. I have owned Hondas, Yamahas and Polaris and would buy another Can Am, or Yamaha. But wont go back to a Honda (too outdated and rough ride) or a Polaris (all ways breaking down).

That's my 2 cents
