Default Increase to user fees for federal services

Excerpt

The Liberal government has introduced a bill that would significantly increase the fees that Canadians pay for a variety of federal services, such as campsites, fishing licences and passports.

In an omnibus budget bill brought forward Tuesday, the government proposes a new Service Fees Act that would automatically hike hundreds of fees by the level of inflation each year.

The move would also make it much easier for departments to apply for fee increases to better match the cost of providing services to individual Canadians and businesses. The proposed law is slated to come into effect April 1 next year.

This also grabbed my attention.

Very sad. Liberals about to legalize pot and now increasing cost to go camping and fishing in Federal parks? Way to get healthy and make the outdoors more accessible!

Yes the government will always be in question.

This park pass was from a previous budget.

I have looked at the mirror ,unfortunately we only see what we want.

Small fire.

How true.

We will start seeing the word "tax" being used less and less. But, "user fee" we will be seeing plenty of.

I know. If they are allowing everyone to enter national parks and historic sites for free during 2017, why are they spending tax $$$ on printing and mailing out free passes. If it is going to be free, just open the gates or doors and let the people in.

Boggles the mind.

This is outrageous. The cost of supplying campsites and passports should be borne by all taxpayers, not just those that use the services.

While I am not opposed to user fees I can see this snowballing out of proportion.

Transparency and Liberal Government are two things I would never put hand in hand. Anyone remember the 200x cost increase for the LGR?

If Trudeau was not so busy giving away taxpayers money to other countries, no increases would be necessary.

Why? Both are discretionary items that are not essential unless you choose to use them.

I'd love a lower base tax and then pick and choose additional services when I decide that I need them for a separate fee.

there will be more " user fees" and various other ways to squeeze money out of the people in the future.
