That alone would have me looking for an HD-5 3-15x42 with target turrets.
I want a 30mm tube.

If you need more elevation, consider a 20min rail.

I don’t want a rail, I don’t like the looks of them. If I’m going to dial and shoot I’ll be looking at the dial anyway. The windage is the only one I might miss, but I’m sure if it becomes an issue I’ll figure out a way to make it stick.

Can you not get 20min bases instead of a rail? I am sure Richard Near could build you something nice. It's just sad that they wouldn't carry over the great turrets from the HD-5.

Cabelas has a V4 in stock, I’m going to go play with it again. When I was checking it out the other day it didn’t seem like the turrets would move too easily unintentionally.

The dual rotation with zero lock and the 2nd rotation indicator on these is amazing. 20 moa per revolution so 40 moa of adjustment to dial up and never wonder where you are on the turret. I have a vx5hd 2-10 with this. I believe the models are called cds zl2.

The bang for buck champ is the vx5hd line up. The 6hd adds illuminated level feature, alumina flip caps, and a throw lever but you pay a lot more for that! Hard to fathom the extra cost.

The 2-10x42 is 19oz, a little heavier than listed. I fondled the vx6hd 3-18 and my guess is a maybe 22 oz, alumina flips bout 1/2 oz each. Canadian tire McLeod trail south had that vx6 btw.

I have a VX6HD 3-18x44 with the illuminated Boone and Crockett reticle that I sent back for warranty work because there was a black spot on the lens inside. It was given to me as a tip this fall. It’s a nice scope and I like the locking turret but I prefer Zeiss over Leupold optics. I’ll put the Leupold on my Christensen and see how it performs. I like the Leupold dials better than Swarovski’s though.

It’s like this, Zeiss and Swarovski are lens companies that make scopes not scope companies that buy glass. The optical quality will always go to the lens company, and if they function as designed then I think they have the edge.

Right on, I’m going back to vx3i 4.5-14x40 (30mm side focus) cds windplex for one project at 15.6 oz I don’t think there is more glass per ounce available. For another that doesn’t need as much range I’m doing the 3.5-10x40 same config and 1” tube, 12.5 oz...a ton of ability for the ounce. You’re euro all the way for awhile...I’ll steer clear so I don’t get the bug too.😉

Admittedly I don’t spend enough time in scope to get too fussy on the lens quality differences.😬

A zero stop would beat locking IMO.

No, not really. Locking in my experience is unnecessary.

Never had a turret turn on a NF, PST or Sightron SIII. I’ve never handled a zeiss V6, but would think they shouldn’t turn to easily. Like yourself if I wasn’t trying to make a certain weight I’d just buy a used NXS. Going to be 6 months till my stock shows up, so I got time to find a scope.

So is zero stop, but both can be nice to have.

It isn't likely to happen sitting on stand, but when riding in vehicles/atvs, or when traveling through brush with the rifle slung over your shoulder it can, and does happen. If you have plenty of time, you will likely notice it, but if you need to get ready and shoot quickly, you might not, especially the windage turret.

Totally agree. I would not have an exposed turret that did not lock on a hunting rifle. I prefer zero stop and lock but to me the lock part is the non-negotiable part. I would truly hate to miss or wound an animal because a turret moved. If I have time to twist turrets, lots of time to take it off lock. IF I have to shoot in a hurry, don't want to have to worry about checking that two Turrets are at the zero stop.

Magnification, is also way overblown. I was shooting today at 12” steel at 1000 yds. Without issue with a 9X scope. More is fine, but it sure isn’t the necessity it’s made out to be.

My 270wsm, 270win, 6.5x55 all have Leupold CDS turrets with zero stop. I have never had an issue with them ever getting bumped or moving. My son has a Nikon monarch on his 243 win with the Kenton industries turret. It is too tall, moves to easy and has no zero stop. My 300wm, 6.5-284 and 7LRM all wear NXS’s but I think they are way to heavy for on a hunting rifle. I have never been a huge fan of Vortex but the 3 vipers I have seem to work really well with the dead hold bdc reticles.

Absolutely. 9x40 or 10x44 is the biggest i would go for big game. Anything more is unnecessary weight

The Nightforce ATACR is even heavier than the NSX line. Nightforce scopes look cool and can be shot and still work but hopefully I won’t have to worry about taking a bullet while hunting. So long as the Zeiss tracks good, that’s all I’m really worried about. I keep a roll of electrical tape in my pack, if I’m going for a walk through the woods it no problem putting a wrap on the turret to keep it from moving if I’m that worried about it.

Default V6

I handled them a few weeks ago, after I watched the video you just posted. I look hard at the V6 for my fierce, it may still may get one.

The V6 has nice clicks, firm and audible. They seemed more pronounced over V4, but that could be just me. Both I prefer their turrets over the swaro z5 and z6. My Leupold V6HD 2-12 with zlock, are the best of all three IMO. The Leupolds are hard to beat for price and what you get

The V 4 has covered windage knobs and the V 6 is exposed with no lock, in the 3-18x50.

Very nice reticles in the V6, ZBR and ZMOA. I preferred the ZMOA it basically the same as Leupold TMOA.

Another great option, if magnification isn’t a deal breaker are the NightForce nxs compacts 2.5-10 and around 20 oz. Great scope, I wish I still had mine.

I was messing around with the V4 yesterday and the dials are very stiff, I highly doubt an accidental twist of the turret would happen. I have a VX6HD 3-18x44 coming next fall, it’s a nice scope but I prefer the turret on the Zeiss. The NSX is nice but this is going to be a long range rifle, 10x isn’t going to cut it. The ATACR is heavy and in my opinion is a target scope, the reticle is too fine to be a Hunting reticle.

I’m pretty confident the Zeiss will be the right choice for this rifle, it seems a good combination of weight, optical clarity, zoom range, ZMOA2 reticle is awesome, zero stop, 30mm tube, and once I get a load developed I can burn the turrets. In a video I was watching the guy said the turrets were lockable, I’m not sure if he was mistaken or if there’s something I don’t know yet. The fact they are made and assembled in Germany is nice too.

I called Zeiss to see if the covered windage turret from the V4 would work with the V6. They never called me back, so I do t have my answer. It would seal the deal for me. It’s a well made rifle. And rumour has it Zeiss poached a few designers from NightForce for this scope.

Well I’m not sure about how they came up with the design or who they poached to do it, but I like it, and if in fact I can lock the windage turret like setting the zero stop, it’ll be perfect.

I don’t think there’s much that ZEISS can learn from nightforce

Neither turret on my 5-30 lock
Elevation has a zero stop
Windage obviously does not
Windage can’t rotate more than once so no worries verifying that your in the middle
Had a 4-16 nightforce and I like more magnification. Min for me would be 18x on a rifle like your building
