The new Zeiss V6 3-18x50. I’ve had good luck with Zeiss in the past. The Swaro is lighter by nearly 6oz but I like the turret better on the Zeiss. Clarity is a wash, I can’t notice any difference. The nightforce NSX is about 32oz and the ATACR is 39oz, way too heavy for my liking. I figure while I have this much invested into the rifle I might as well go with a scope more set up as a duel purpose scope to match the duel purpose rifle.

OK fellas. Recess is over. I heard there were some boys arguing on the playground. That's not nice. If feelings are hurt, the kindergarten room is giving out milk and cookies to those who promise to get along better. Some of you may want to go get some.

Enough.

Have you looked at the Vortex AMG? I love mine. FFP though, which doesn't fly with a lot of guys on hunting rifles.

They look like a nice scope but they are getting up there in weight, almost a half pound heavier than the Zeiss. If this was a bench gun it wouldn’t matter, but I want to use it for Hunting as well so I’m trying to keep it underb8lbs. I still haven’t found a spec on the actual weight of a bare ClymR yet, I think they’re just over the 6lb mark, 6lb 4oz. So with the Zeiss I think it’ll be right around 7lb 10oz, just under 8lbs loaded.

There's a fine line between want and need and when the "want" wins out, there's no stopping the desire. Not saying that's what happened in Kurt's case but that is certainly what happens with me...... on more then occasion I might add..

Heck, why do most have of us have multiple firearms......lol

Enjoy the gun till the next one.

Kurt is crazy, but a good kind of crazy, just like many of us. It's just a gun, and in terms of price it is like a new quad or sled, except it will hold its value better. Compared to a mid life crisis car or waterski boat it is chump change. I say... Give Er Hell and get two so you have one to loan out to buddies!

I have HD-5s with the lockplex on all of my varmint rifles. Good glass, and they track very well, and the turrets are tough to move accidentally. Zeiss has by far my favorite turrets for field or target use.

Waiting to hear reviews on the V6. That's the scope I was thinking of for my next build. Did you buy it here or get it imported? I see some places in the states have good sales on Zeiss every now and then. I'd like the 5-30.

The V6 2-1/2 to 15, or 3-18, would be ideal for big game hunting, great field of view at close range, and enough magnification for long range.

There certainly isn’t a whole lot of reviews out there on the V6 but everything I’ve read so far has been very positive. I’ve heard the glass is fluoride lens which is even superior to HD glass and that Zeiss has another line of scopes under another name that they build scopes for the military under and they are using the internal technology from those scopes on the V6 line. Zeiss turrets seem like the perfect blend of military and hunting type turrets which is perfect for what my intended use is.

I got it from Sylvestres in Bonnyville. I went with the 3-18x50 because it’s going to be a hunting rifle first that’s capable of shooting from the bench. I be had a couple Swarovski Z5 3-18x44’s and a couple Leupold VX6 3-18x44’s but they were all sitting on top ultralight rifles that weren’t really bench rifles so the got swapped out with Z3 3-10x42’s and VX6 2.5-12x42”s. For a hunting rifle I think 2-5-12 is about as good as it gets but for this particular rifle I think that 3-18 is the way to go.

Makes sense. I like lots of magnification for most shooting. I even shoot at 30 power at 100 yds when doing load development. Eyes aren’t as good as they used to be. 5 power for me walking or out of a tree stand seems to work good. The V6 is a lot of scope in a fairly light package.

The glass is definitely the same quality as the victory line
Turrets do not lock but they have a zero stop
Tracks well
Clicks are solid
Good eye relief
Anything in particular that you would like specific info about?

I find mirage to starts to be an issue after 14x, I think over 20x it probably starts playing tricks on a guy quite a bit. I’m only guessing though because I haven’t owned a scope over 18x. In low light conditions I like low magnification to help collect as much light as possible but I imagine 5x wouldn’t be a deal breaker, it’s still Hunting that I could see 5x being a hindrance.

The V6 at 22.2oz is a great scope, within an ounce of the Swarovski Z6 but the turrets are far superior imo.

Do you think accidentally turning a turret is something to worry about or are they tight enough and have a smooth enough finish not to worry about it?

The v6 5-30 has a 50mm objective
Helps for the closer shots by giving a wider field of view and helps with gathering light in those critical final minutes of legal light

They are well designed and don’t stick out
Going in and out of a case hasn’t been an issue
And you always have your zero stop too

The edges seem smoothed out enough that they shouldn’t snag on anything. I really like the locks on the VX6HD dials, they seem like the cats exit.

The turret is just so tall, Swarovski really needs to redesign their turrets into a more sleek design imo.

I had hoped that they would lock like the HD-5 target turrets, that is a step backwards from the HD-5.

That alone would have me looking for an HD-5 3-15x42 with target turrets.
