....is there any pistol that is more of a PITA to re-assemble??
Oh sure, they are easy to take apart. But that dang hammer strut always gives me grief, and it's not like I haven't done it more than a few times. I'm going to give it to my future son in law as his first handgun, I'm going to stick with my S&W Model 41, and Colt Challenger. So much nicer to shoot and clean and put back together.
Sure, you say go on Youtube and watch the guy put it together in 16 seconds. And yet still...putting the pin back up through the bolt, and getting that hammer strut to fall into the right grove and get it all to pivot together just like that....I must be getting old and cranky. It never used to bug me, I just fiddled it until it went back together.
Yup, old and cranky. My Ruger Standard is a beautiful example from 1953, #56xxx...and it has been cleaned and oiled and put back together for the last time by me. Enjoy it, 'son'.....
