Draft Day
Not that I am complaining, but how did the Oilers end up with a D-man that was captain of his team and score 25 goals and had 87 points in 67 games last year. Why the heck didn't this kid go earlier?

Right handed stud of a d-man!!!! This is awsome! We now have a quarter back for the power play! He’s got a sledge hammer slap shot.

No different than this forum, some people have to be novel.
Mckenzie's Draft Ranking is considered the Bible of rankings because it is based on a compilation of NHL scouts' opinions/rankings of players. Here is what was said of Bouchard... "Bouchard was the very clear No. 5 prospect on the Draft Lottery edition rankings, a notable cut below the Big Four but also notably ahead of the rest of the draft class, including the three other defencemen who appear locked and loaded as Top 10 picks this year."
I'd be interested in seeing who had him ranked 15. Give a link.

Bouchard is 18 looking 28. Excited to see what he can do.

Excellent
I was worried that we would be subject to another one of Chiarelli's trades. Now fingers crossed that the coaching has improved so as to not kill this kid.

First ranking I looked at:
Sporting News
The Hockey Writers had him at 8:
Hockey Writers
As for your sure fire top 5, if you paid attention to what you wrote, "Bouchard was the very clear No. 5".... he wasn't at the time of the draft. Bob ranked him outside the top 5....
TSN
Maybe you got a good player, but I don't think its exceptionally good luck that a player with an average ranking of 10, from three separate rankings, was selected 10th overall.

Who did Calgary get in the first round, second round, third round fourth round?
What have they stocked their cupboards with for depth?

Your Sporting News ranking is laughable. They have Dahlin ranked #2.

Vegas makes it to the final with a team of unprotected players and never had a draft pick ever.....so I guess the whole 'rebuild' by drafting theory is out the window.
The whole Flames / Oilers rivalry for exciting last place hockey is a disgusting dumpster fire, but at least not as bad as Ottawa....
I think I'm going to take up knitting by the fire, and skip hockey for the next decade.

So what? Its raining out. Stay on track. He dropped, at most, three spots on the highest ranking I've seen, and was placed tenth on all the rankings I've averaged, why are the Oilers so lucky to get a guy ranked 7th to 15th, at tenth?

I see Flames made a trade today, Hamilton, Ferland and Adam Fox to Carolina for Elias Linholm and Noah Hanafin. Got a much needed goal scorrer.

No one, mainly because they haven't made their 4th round picks yet.
Tyler Parsons, Juuso Valimaki, Dillon Dube, Adam Fox, etc.
The draft isn't the end all be all. Wanna guess how many top ranked prospects the Oilers have?

Hanifin had 10 goals last year and Linholm had 16. Hamilton had 17 as a d-man, not sure who the "much needed goal scorer" is in the deal.

And you wanna tell me how trading your ‘elite defenseman’ hamilton And two other guys for Hanafin and Lindholm are a good deal...?
You guys look to be in a build for future mode.....
That’s IF Hamilton was the poison in the locker room like I’ve been hearing.
Shames had big locker room attitude problems last year. No doubt about it.
Typical Calgarians.... he he!

No idea how these trades makes any sense... What the hell am I missing......
Did Dougie get his poop in a knot when they traded his brother?
I have 0% excitement over this.....
Almost a bit sick to my stomach.
BUT....I do like Calgary management. I like them a lot..
So what the hell do I know...

I'm not sure I can. I like Hanafin, not sure getting Lindholm is going to solve anything. Seems they could have gotten more for Hamilton and Fox.
Edit: The only way it makes any sense to me is if management thought Fox wasn't going to sign and Hanafin Lindholm haven't reached their potential. I'm a bit suspect due to their age, but hopefully Peters knows more than I.

Welcome to trading from a position of weakness.
Hall regrettably had to leave E-Town.
I suspect Johnny Hockey is a head case too.
Teams need to figure out how to mold young cocky players into nhl professionals.

I'm not sure I like Calgary management? They've kept from overpaying their star players, maybe?
I wonder if this part of a three-way deal with the other parts TBA?
