Question Have you checked your do not call registration

Your old registration, for the Do Not Call List, may have expired or will expire soon

When I went on the Canada Website, I found out that my home phone number is due to expire on the DNC list on Oct 31 and I was able to immediately renew for another 5 years as well as adding my cell phone. Thought this was good info from the Gov't of Canada ...if you have a cell phone.

REMEMBER: Cell Phone Numbers Go Public this month.
REMINDER ... all cell phone numbers are being released to telemarketing companies and you will start to receive sales calls.

.... YOU WILL BE CHARGED FOR THESE CALLS!!

To prevent this, go to the following web-site for Canadian Telephone Numbers:

http://www.lnnte-dncl.gc.ca/ and then click on English & then on "check my registration."
Then click on "extend my registration".

It is the National DO NOT CALL list It will only take a minute of your time.

It blocks your number for five (5) years.

PLEASE HELP OTHERS BY PASSING THIS ON.
DO NOT CALL

Trouble is, that companies or businesses do not adhere to this list. If they don't, and many don't, furnace cleaning, credit advice, etc., phone 1-866-580-3625 and lodge a complaint. It does work, once reported, as offenders receive a fine I was told.

Just did all of mine and my families' numbers.

I got 73 months out of that. You can extend it further.

Super! I hadn't registered my cell # yet, but have been getting an increasing # of "you've won a cruise!" calls on it lately, so now I'm on the list. It'll give me grounds to file a complaint if I keep getting them after mid-Oct.

You know what the fine is? $250 last time I heard. And they don't actually do much for enforcement.

And then there are all the scammers who change their numbers to look like anything or are not in Canada who don't have to abide by the rules or don't care. Our number has been on the DNC list since 2010 and we get called weekly by either a scammer or some "charity".

The latest ones are showing up as 000-000-0000 or private name and number. They like to request the DNC list and phone them since they know they are active numbers.

I too have had lots of cruise calls on cell. thanks. I was on however. Not to make them stop. I think they are phishing calls likely as the return call number is bogus. They have some way of hiding their number

Thanks for the info and heads up!

One of the tricks they do is to represent their number as being in the same area code and office code as your phone.

ie: if your number is (403) 948 -yyyy, they will use (403) 948 - xxxx. Makes you think it is a local number and you are more likely to answer.

In our family it has gotten to the point that we don't even answer any of our phones unless the number is known to us. If it is legitimate, then they will leave a message/number.

What about all this CASL business that was supposed to take care of this? Hahaha.

I was on the DNC list initially but found i was flooded with calls.

I removed my numbers and get the odd call now.

My rule is simple. I screen my calls. If i dont know the number i dont answer. If it is important or you want a call back then then leave a message.

I think I actually started to get more telemarketers calling me when I first signed up on the do not call list.

Good heads up!

I won the WestJet $1000 voucher twice last week on my cell

They wouldn't mail it to me, when I told her I didn't have a credit card she hung up

Been getting a lot of calls lately that start 011. Don't know where they originate.
I let them ring then go into the missed call list bring up the number and block it from my cell. Probably blocked about 30 in the last few weeks.
Numbers I don't know I let ring and if they leave a message I may call back otherwise it gets blocked

If I don't see a name on the call display, landline or cell, I just don't answer. I have no time for nameless callers.

DNC list is just another way for telemarketers to get your phone number.

I'm pretty much the same. If I don't recognize the number I just let it go to voicemail. If it's important they will leave a message.

I can click on the number in my call history and then hit options. Gives a list, like add to contacts, delete, block etc.

This doesn't work on the iPhone 4s with iOS 7.1.2. Tried it and the blocked number still comes through. So I deleted the numbers from the blocked call list. Waste of time.

Good thing it expires. We found that after registering our numbers the unwanted calls went up! We had a few before and lots after. We won't be renewing that's for sure!

Where did you get this info from? Seems like an ongoing scam both here and in the states. I'd be pretty p%$^&* if I started to get soliciting calls on my cell. All I could find was this which contradicts your claim.
