Default Legal Age to Hunt in Alberta?

Do you have to be a certain age before you are allowed to hunt in Alberta?
Wondering if i should start my newborns draws now for some of the bigger priorities...

12 to hunt with a parent or adult, but you cant atart applying for the draws till you will be 12 during that calender year season.
The 2011 regs might still be on line, they can explain it better than I

as much as it would be nice for you personally, think of how many kids would be pounding that priority when they turn 12. there wouldnt be enough tags to go around....particularly on the high priority stuff. each year there are older guys that hang it up and young kids take their place. to allow what you suggest would cause some big issues.

On private land, any resident can hunt black bear without a license

Any resident.

I thought as a youth you could only hunt on youth tags like mule and whitey no draws? Am I wrong?

My 15 yr old son is a #3 Priority for bull moose and buck MD this year.
He's been in the draws for 3 yrs already.
He got his cow elk tag as a 14 yr old last year as a #2P.

you cannot hunt until age 12, and you have to go through the alberta conservation and hunter education course and pass the exam. if the individual is 11 and will be 12 years old by the season, they can enter the draw if they meet all those prerequisites. (went through the whole process when i was 12.)

hope your kids get into it. theres nothing i enjoy more then getting out and hunting with my dad.

Any resident.
Canadian resident or resident of that land? (landowner)

Example, I have a BB tag and I go hunting on a friend's private quarter. Could I take my son out hunting bear with me if he does not have a license?

Just trying to clarify. Thanks.

The only residents when it comes to hunting are those from Alberta. Those from other parts of Canada are non-residents.

As always, the regs are your friend:

Quote:
Black Bear and Coyote*
Any person who is (a) the owner or occupant of privately owned land, or (b) authorized to keep livestock on public land, or (c) a resident authorized by a person described in (a) or a resident authorized in writing by a person described in (b) may, without a licence, hunt (but not trap) black bear or coyote on such lands, at all times of the year.
As huntinstuff pointed out, the keyword there is "any"
