Default Ritchie Bros Edmonton Sale

Went to Edmonton last Friday to look at a few items. This week the auction was on and it is different because the sale is completely on line. I thought many would not bother bidding and there would be bargains to be had. Everything that interest me went very high and it appeared to have the highest prices of any Alberta sale previously. At least the people who are faced with getting rid of pieces are getting good prices. Anybody else paying attention to the iron market?

Alot of the interest is from out of country, due to the exchange rate being favourable.

Still, I expected alot more toys up for sale???

I was interested in those hydra trek machines, like an argo, I'm sure they went for huge bucks!!!

With our Canadian peso, buyers market for people south of the border for sure.

Very high been looking, retail prices plus the commission, no deals, I had seen that on another sale in Saskatchewan since the online bidding, big profits for Ritchie's not have to pay as many yard people.

Everything I was watching went South. They are paying abiout .65c so why wouldn't they? Huge sale.

Went for 92,500 plus fees.... so by the time she's home you have spent 100.

I have been watching the last couple of RB auctions. I thought a lot of the road building iron both at the Edmonton and GP auctions went cheap. I think some folks got good deals on haul trucks, graders and dozers. I was very happy that I did not put any machines on the block. Perhaps next years break up auctions will be better for “sellers”.

Been waiting for Ritchie to start airplane auctions. They have a good location beside airport. A guy should be able to pick up a few AirCanada or Westjet 737's for a good price.

I thought stuff sold strong. I’m amazed how the pretty big buyers fees don’t seem to be deducted from people’s bids. Bid prices often get close to retail values which seems awfully high considering its “as is” auction situation.

nothing that the everyday auction guy can afford at these sales unless it is a pile of crap.Been to the last 4 looking at consumer items for the timed bids and always has been so expensive.Dont know what the commision is but somebody is making money.Better off buying new .

That was a focus area for me. Very high prices there. JD 85g made 100,000.
It was a little rat bagged hoe.
I had it pegged at 65.

Iron is moving out to all countries. Some of the iron is US bound but the buyers are coming from everywhere circling Alberta like vultures.

Had 6 items dispersed in this sale. Return was 30% higher than expected.

Bought nothing. Too many risks with no in person viewing.

That would make sense, but not yet. Everything recreational is selling!
A friend went to buy a bike at Canadian tire, next to no stock.

Lady at work had a hard time finding a horse, selling before she could get there to look.

I thought about buying a new RC truck for the boy and I. Both hobby shops in Edmonton are sold out of everything that I’m interested in.

People have time right now. Payments will catch up to them in 3 months I’d say.

I was on my way to Ritchies the other day to look at some welding machines. Got 5 minutes from home and turned around. I got to thinking, the machines are high hours, they’re pretty basic, they either work or they don’t. I was going to invest half a day in viewing something that even if it runs well could die in 3 months, and I don’t know the end price yet.

Decided to buy unseen. They sold for min $500 more than they’re worth, plus fees.

Unless you have nothing better to do, or are buying some big dollar items, it’s almost a waste of time to go look at stuff there.

I watched this last one mainly for the heavy equipment like dozers and traders and they went for a higher price in this sale then they did last year at this time. A lot of the stuff seemed to stay in Alberta that I watched to.

I picked up a skidsteer grapple bucket at the last sale for $750 at the last sale, the exact same bucket at the sale last week went for $1700. Everything i was watching in the timed auction went extremely high this time.

Everything went high for sure! That grapple bucket did not go state side either. The auction got so much attention due to covid and everyone had money in hand expecting bargains. Drove the prices through the roof!

Default 87% went to Canadians.

The May 11 – 15 Edmonton auction welcomed more than 23,500 online bidders from 58 countries, setting a new company attendance record. Approximately 87% of the assets in the auction were sold to Canadian buyers, including 47% purchased by Albertans, while international bidders purchased 13%. One hundred percent of the equipment in the auction was sold to online buyers, including 20% purchased through Ritchie Bros.’ mobile application.

Lots of cash still in Alberta....

The exchange may be favourable to buyers of products if they live outside of Canada. For us Canadian consumers the 1.40 US-CDN dollar differential is hard to live with.
