Default So what 7mm would you choose?

So my 'smith called me last week and said "well, I'm ready to chamber your barrel, are you sure you want a 7RM" I said well I wanted a 7wsm but hate pulling bullets just to get brass. He then said what about a 28 nosler. I said no brass is too expensive. Ok then he said what about a 7LRM. It got me thinking, I asked is brass available he said yes. Are dies available I asked he again said yes. So my new long range rig should be done as soon as I get a jewel trigger and a near alpha mount for my scope. Just wondering if anyone else is shooting a 7LRM and what powder your using?

I assume your action has a magnum bolt face based on your original plan .. kind of limits choices that might be recomended here. But if I were building a 7mm on a 473 boldface, I would look seriously at 284 Win...but if I recall correctly, you already have a 6.5 X 284.

If you have x magnum bolt face then with a 7 Remingon mag
If standard I would go with a 280 Remington

Default Currently in a 7mm Rem Project

I currently am working on a 7mm Rem mag project. The issue i am running into is lower velocities than stated. When i need to re barrel I think i would change to a 7mm Shooting Times Western with a muzzle brake.

I own a 7mm rem mag and 7mm-08, both Coopers. Like them both a lot.

Really like the 7mm-08, lighter, shorter (22" barrel) and just feels great, wood stock, its my "go to" deer gun. Rem Mag is heavier and longer (26" barrel) synthetic stock, its my "go to" gun when deer and larger, or longer distances, are on the days agenda.

I do reload. 120 and 140 grain bullets in the 7mm-08 and 160-175 grain bullets in the 7mm Rem Mag.

If I had to sell one of them, I wouldn't.

I was going to go with the 7 LRM but I don't shoot heavy bullets with my 7 rem mag so I just kept it the way it is

I have owned the 7mm-08, 280AI, 7mmremmag, 7mmstw, and the 7mmRUM, and the only one I still own, is a 7mmstw. This is the sixth 7mmstw that have owned, but I don't recommend the cartridge to most shooters.

You don't recommend the cartridge, and I do including the the 7mm rem mag,but in no heavier then 7 lb 8 ounces, you can't compare a rifle this caliber if you shooting a target gun with 28 inch barrel, the rifles you use from past post are nice guns, but made more for bench than practical hunting , did you wear out six barrels but not actions,i have a sako stw puchased in 2000 in sako 75 hunter with scope and rings and that clip loaded I am in around 10.5 pounds because the stw came in at just over 8,i have around 30 kills with it and some very long shots, but 95 percent under 450 yrds .It was my back up gun when guiding and more than once poorly placed shots by guest left me some shots that were 1000 plus and the stw did it's job, still on my first barrel around 350 down it.

shoot an 8 lb stw with no break and the factory pad there's recoil, and that's where I can see you not recommending this caliber,i owed the 7wsm until 2 days ago ,it's history, but a nice shooting caliber. .

The stw in the right hands is one heck of a nice gun,but most guys I know have trouble with recoil where as the rem mag is about 25 percent less recoil.if you start changing weight and things all the numbers are mixed.Because of wieght and recoil and variety of guns made in 7mmrem mag it's the pick of the group for me,but then also like the 280AI,shoot my friends the odd time and find it ok to go.After 40 years of shooting a 7mm rm it's hard to change,i keep changing, but always going back, plus bullet choice is almost to many.

The 7mm STW has been made obsolete by the 28 Nosler. Unless you like nostalgia over simple facts.

So I guess nobody read the first post. I've built one Lrm and converted two Lrms to 7-375 ruger as my buddy was sick of paying over $100 for a bag of brass. if memory serves me the vitavouri n570 and n540 were the two powders that seemed to work the best. This was with 180 bergers and 180 scenars

The post was read, the title to the thread was answered as I do not use the powders asked nor a 7 LRM.

I did use, have, had a 7 STW before Remington commercialized it and It was not worth the snot knocking recoil, lost sight of target after shot making it hard to locate target for follow up shot if required unless it was paper

It was fun but there were better suited calibres etc that allowed me to sight, shoot and cycle another cartridge all with out loosing sight of the target and not having frozen snot on the stock after the shot from recoil but it did clean the head of any mucus!

I have a browning stainless stalker chambered in 7mm WSM and I love it! It's my go to gun, I use it for all my big hunting with hand loaded 140 grain Accubonds. I'm a huge WSM fan, and imo the 7mm WSM is highly underrated. Although the brass is scarce id stick with it!

Default 7mm remington magnum

The 7mm Rem. Mag. is probably my favourite cartridge for hunting ''big game'' Any half decent CT or Wal-mart carries ammo if you were in a jam. Excellent velocities with Retumbo and the bullets on the heavier end. Recoil less than the .300 Mags.
