Default good all around gun

If you'er looking for a great starter for your son maybe take a look at the savage axis xp. you and pick up the gun with a 3x9 scope for around $340 to $380 ish and they come in alot of cal's. i have one in a 270win and it has been a great gun for about 5 years now.

Good luck and happy hunting

I just picked up a package deal for him. Got the Savage cab 111 hunter XP
270 cal with the Bushnell 3x9. For $400 it's not a bad little starter package. If he decides he likes hunting he can upgrade in a couple of seasons.

The terrible trigger on those will ruin him as a shooter. My 2 cents.
Hard to beat 7mm-08 for a kids starting gun, I bought one for my kid last year!
Fairly low recoil and can tackle any game except G Bear with the right bullet!

Ya,, they all didn't come with bushnels. Usually the scopes are barely suitable until they get to the 30-06 and higher and they get rattles up by recoil

Just be wary of Remington, I hate to say it but from what I've been seeing at the range lately they seem to be having a bigger quality control issues than they care to admit. I've been out and have seen a couple of guys out with new rifles that have had to pack them up after a dozen shots as they had problems . There new rifles would not chamber or fire properly. Or it might have been a strange coincidence. I know I would not want to be playing the odds. And as far as the package scopes on the savage ( bushnell) I just gave one away to a friend to replace the one that came on his savage 30.06 that fell apart. The scope I gave him came off a 243 savage youth model 11. I put a leupold vx1 3x9 on my sons 243.
