I have used him to bed and install a stock for me as well as mount a scope. I was pleased with the work he did and would use him again.

Dan built a 280 on a rem titanium action for me. Great work, lower price than RMR, and he did the complete job in way less time than the estimated quotes from places like RMR.

Brutally expensive. Seems to "find" reasons to charge extra

Depends exactly what you want. All of the smiths have their strengths.

Dan has done some work for me a couple of times. Always at or below the quoted price and done in a reasonable amount of time. I'd use him again without question.

Default First impression

A few years back I was contemplating using him for a few things. Wasn't overly impressed with his knowledge on some simple things like rifle brakes, simple bolt measurements etc..

Does he even have a lathe?

He doesn't do any metal work or at least didn't a couple years ago when I talked to him. I asked if he chambered barrels, etc. He openly admitted that he had someone else do that. I did not ask who though. Now before I go slandering some guy I have never met. I do not know if he assembles anything himself or if he is just a middle man for metal work type stuff. We had a good chat about some accuracy issues I was having with one of my rifles and he was a really nice guy. I believe he does more simple stuff like mounting scopes properly which includes lapping rings, bedding stocks, etc.
