There was a similar thread a year or two back. Maybe not on this forum though. I used that thread and my own searches to come up with a short list:

Trout Bum - Gierach
A River Never Sleeps - Haig-Brown
The River Why - Duncan
The Longest Silence - McGuane

Winter reading. Just started on the first one.

Anything by John Gierach and Roderick Haig-Brown are worth reading. For more flyfishing technique based reading, The Gilly is indispensable.

FF books should be decided into various groups:

1) Technique
2) Damn good writing
3) Fly Tying
4) Building FF equipment
5) Ecology, Environment, Stream Rehab.

Which sub-set interests you?

Don

I haven't read most of them (yet). Are you sure it isn't Patrick McManus not Roger McManus. I have read all of his and he is definitely one of the better humorists about fishing and outdoors
