Default First time Goose Hunter

I am sure happy the Alberta Fish And Wildlife dropped the age for hunting!!
My son took the hunters ed course and practiced shooting. On opening day we got up at 4:00 and headed out to a pea field we had scouted. Jeremy jumped in to help setting up the decoys and blinds. I headed out of the field to drop of the truck and on my return he excitedly told me that a flock of ducks had landed and walked around him, even when he shined his head lamp on them they didn’t fly!!
I settled into my blind and we patiently waited for first light. I would like to say the geese pored in and we shot our limits, but that was not the case. The wind shifted few birds came but the trip was a huge success, Jeremy took his first Goose!! I could not be a prouder father.

Nice congrats to the young hunter for life now I’m sure. I’m sure he will
remember this first hunt for life. I still remember my first goose hunt 25 years ago with my dad. First shot knocked my right off my feet into the back of the willow blind. But be damned if I didn’t hit that goose I was aiming at. Good old dad had no mercy on me handed me 3” magnum shells first thing that morning. Lol

Have a 10yr old on his first season and a 13yr old on his second, both doing well, and having fun, except for the deke pickup time, bit slow moving come that part of it. Liked the look on the young guy's face last weekend when he got his first duck and then his first goose, he hammered them both, real good. Fun to watch the kids, but, we are going to have to start taking birds on them now, waiting too much on letting the birds work so the kids can have a chance, and the geese haven't been cooperating too well in that dept.

Way to go Kid!

Firsts in life get a special place in the memory bank.

I recall my first goose, pass shooting at Eagle Lake with Doug Barkley, the one-eyed Red Winger.

Single shot 20 gauge and I got two with two shots. Heck Yah, still smile thinking about it.
