Default Load data request - Barnes 200g TTSX BT 35 Whelen

Hey Y'all. I'd like to ask if anyone has a Barnes manual handy. Their website doesn't list this particular bullet. I would be looking to load with Varget, BL-C(2), or H's 335, 322 or 4895. It's a 18.5" tube so I'm thinking BL-C(2) might be my best choice.

This is the only Barnes bullet I have in my inventory in any calibre right now, so a manual purchase would just be for light reading.

Much Thanks in advance

Colin

Ok, so I'm going to preface this by saying I'm no expert at QuickLoad. And my version didn't have TTSX so I went with TSX. So use at your own discretion.
I compared to www.hodgdonreloading.com with 200grain cup and core bullet and it's close.
And I compared to Barnes website data for R15 and QL was within that range.

You can use their data listed for 200gr tsx. Unfortunately they only show 2 powders online.
I've emailed them before for load data and they've been very helpful. Give it a shot.

Without checking I would have guessed RL15 as a good place to start.
Pretty limited info on Barnes website

If you email or phone, don't know what phones are like with Covid, Barnes and tell them bullet, powder and Cartridge they will give you load data for it. I have done this a few times. They are very helpful.

Thanks Dean. I'm gonna shoot off an email, see what they come back with.

I don't want to invest in any new powders. I'd rather use up what I have or stay with the mainstays I use - Varget and BL-C(2) being my favourites. I won't get a chance to hit the bench for a couple of days and it may be a week or more before I can get out to the range. I'll report back when I've got some worthy results

Just out of curiosity, what did Barnes have to say?

I never heard back. I did use comparable data from multiple sources and cross referenced charge weights and bullet types with weights from 200 to 225g. From that I was able to make an educated guess of a safe start point for Varget and the 200g TTSX bt.

I set my COAL to 3.325 as the recommended length of 3.330 for the Barnes bullet was just about too long for the magazine.

I loaded from 54.5 to 57.3 grains in increments of .5 then .3. No pressure signs and every load extracted well. I could go heavier but at 57.3g of Varget I'm nearing compression.

Both 54.5 and 57.0 shot extremely well. The limiting factor for this rifle (rem 7600 carbine) is the trigger. But I have a Timney sear and spring kit that should solve that.

Next batch will be 57.0 and I'll back them out to 3.300 and move them in by 10 thou at a time and see what works best. And I'll run them over the chrony to see if I'm in the ball park for velocity. I'm hoping for at least 2600 fps. If not, I'll play with BL-C(2) next.

I like Varget because it seems to reach compression before max pressure. Not always great, but for this action that is desirable. I'm using Fed 210m primers. I might try again with 215m if the velocity is still lagging.

Glad you got that worked out and that you found an accurate load. Will be interesting to hear what your velocities are coming out at.

Sounds like Barnes is having issues due to the virus. Anytime I ever phoned or emailed them I got an almost immediate response. That or so many guys are loading and shooting because of all the free time they have they are backlogged.

You want to use Ramshot TAC with that bullet and powder.

You will legitimately get close to 2900 in a 22" barrel.

Worked in my .350 RM and Whelen.
