Default Savage Model 12 Varmint Rifle Reviews

Does anyone own one or have at least shot one? What were your thoughts on them. I am looking at getting a 22-250 with the fluted barrel but was wondering what type of quality they are with both pros and cons. Thanks

I have a model 12 in .223. I replaced the stock with a Brownells, and stuck a high powered scope on it. It weighs slightly over 12lbs now. With a bi-pod and sand bag rear support, gophers out to 400 meters are pretty much toast on most days. On exceptional days I can hit them further, but I do have some regrets in the high power scope. The heat mirage really plays hell with my image clarity when I have it cranked up.
The rifle functions well. I inserted a single shot adapter so loading is easy. Very accurate as long as I do my part. Cant really say anything bad about it.

I have a 12 FLV .204 26' bull barrel and love it. Very, very accurate. As I'm cheap I just bought a Tac Pro ambi cheek rest, drilled two holes and now I have an adjustable cheek rest. The only thing I don't like is there is no floor plate or magazine. Ditch the 22-250 and get .204. Then you can actually see your hits happen .

12FV in.223 fixed 12x scope less than 1/2" @100, blows gophers up as needed, no mods to gun, great value.

12FVSS in .223 topped with a VXII Target scope. Best group so far is 1.510" @ 300 yds with 69gr SMK's. Superb shooter without mods.

I've got a model 12 FCV. 223 rem. It's a great shooter and has gave me many under 1/2 moa groups. And lots of dead yotes.

The bolt release on mine has broke and I need to get a new part under warranty. That's my only complaint.
