Very few people have the right character to deal/raise a bird that has that much character ! That pugnacious attitude is normal for all Reeves males.
I lost count years ago how many holes mine has kicked into me, or has bitten out of me.But I'll always have them. I love there "abundant character"!
Amherst are not like that at all. The one I have now is shy, runs inside when he sees people, unless it is early morning/late day/breeding season/overcast. However, I've had some not shy, didn't mind people. Each one I've had, has had a different personality: not like the Reeves males; all cranky.
Goldens are another friendly species. We can hand feed ours any time. In fact, when going into the pen with the feed bucket, you have to watch where you step ! They'll try getting into the bucket as you walk !
PS: Nice to see at least a few people interested in Pheasants/Quail on this site !
