Came home from work the other day & the wife shows me a carving she did that day, on Cotton wood bark. (and she should have been out weeding my trees ! )

I'll start a collection for ya here in Cowtown! Tell your wife that the carving is fantastic! What does she do with them? Does she sell them? Do you have some pics of other pieces? Do you....lol! NOW I'm just trying to bug ya 'cause I know you're stuck with dial-up!

Burl log is only half peeled right now.

I have to re-size some others before posting them (her carvings).

Only peeled log & now in my Amherst pen. Gives them a place to display, look around etc. Plus works as a roof support for snow load.

Couple more carvings.
An interesting note about the Elk. She raided my tool boxes for simple wood chisles & razor knife to carve that one.

This one doesn't really show how 3-D it is. The plates are off to the left of the carrage.

Reeves, that is some pretty cool stuff! Now I know why she ordered so many trees....to keep you outta the house so she could work in peace!

On a serious note, what type of wood does she prefer to work with? Personally, I love the grain of Elms, and love the pink of certain apples. Let me know and I'll start a collection for ya!

She did one in Oak & was not happy it has such hard wood

The last one (first pic) is out of Cotton wood bark: she loves that stuff ! Very soft she says. She has a few more pieces of it. Going to have to find more for her. I'll be looking along the Pembina for some.
She also has some drift wood.
Don't know if she has ever tried apple tree wood ?
