Dog bed for notorious chewer
Looking for something comfy for my girl, she’s a 16 month old GWP. A real sweetheart but she loves to chew. She runs hard during the day and has toys but something about dog beds makes her want to rip them to pieces- any ideas?

Does she need a comfy dog bed or is it just us humans projecting to our dogs what we think they would like? Their ancestors don't use them.
My Aussie is a chewer, and is crate trained and sleeps on a towel, nothing else. When she lies around the house she prefers the tile or hardwood floors the the carpet and rugs most of the time.
Granted, she's not very old and when she gets older and dealing with arthritis, who knows? By then she may not be inclined to chew as much either.

Our ancestors did not use beds either and I still prefer a bed over the floor.

My Golden has some of the best beds, but prefers the floor, or the couch, or my bed, just not her bed.
So I let her lie, where she feels most comfortable.

The Maxx crate mats are very tough compared to most dog beds, but then again, my dog is not a chewer. Canadian Tire stocks them.

My beagle loves to chew. The best beds I have found so far are the foam type with cover similar to a couch cushion but also covered with a towel. The pillow type beds with stuffing inside rarely lasted over a day. My dog actually prefers sleeping on the couch with a fleece blanket.

If your dog is a chewer I would advise against towels unless you want to risk an expensive operation.

My Newfie prefers the cold hard floor but will occasionally use one of these raised dog beds.

Thanks for the heads up. She doesn't bother with a towel. It seems anything with foam in it, like most dog beds, really get her going.

If you have a place for it make a straw bed in a wooden frame. Dogs like nesting. Requires freshening the straw every so often.

We had a similar problem with our dog. Went through a few more expensive beds before I got fed up. I took a piece of carpet I had laying around, folded it under a piece of plywood and attached the carpet to the underside with staples so there are no ends of carpet at the top. She’s been using that for over a year now and never once tried chewing it.

Last one i got for Tuck was 2-3 yrs ago. It was a gift card leftover money item. It lasted about a year, he didn't chew it, just ripped and tore it slowly here and there over the year. He'd destroyed a few of them over the years previously, as well as my couch. He stopped chewing things at about 2 yrs old. I have a couple of 18.00 thin couch potato comforter type thingys for him that are two yrs old now, got them at Walmart I think, he likes those, hasn't wrecked them at all, one in his house and one in the livingroom. Still likes the wood floor to lay on though.
Dog next door ate carpet when it was a pup. Did a number on the neighbor's carpet, surprised she didn't get sick doing that.
