No need to play god, if you feel that strongly call a CO and see what they deem appropriate. Unless you want to run the risk of running up some charges, not worth it to me.

Now if the animal has been hit by a vehicle and its back legs obliterated is in obvious state of no repair...I have called the CO’s/RCMP and been given permission to use a knife to quickly end things. No weapon “discharge” required.

Mother nature is cruel. Might be the nice thing to do if it was livestock but the legality of it would prevent me from doing so. Coyotes have to eat to, so do scavenging birds etc. Circle of life.
