Default Blowguns Confiscated

Two blowguns I had purchased in the US got confiscated when I crossed the border. I had declared them so there was no issue re me having in my possession a prohibited weapon, but they took them. I asked them why and got a speech about how powerful they were - the agent claimed the one he tried could go straight through an apple. He did not appreciate my sharing that anyone of my kids compound bows would go through an inch of plywood. Anyone know why they are banned in Canada?

I know little about them ....and I could be wrong but isn't it because a blow gun is used to administer a toxin?

Anything that can penetrate an apple is obviously too dangerous for a simple civilian like yourself to be in possession of!
Did he mention if it was a macintosh or a granny smith? There's a big difference!

Just trying to figure out why a person would spend money on a blowgun when a MacDonalds straw or a piece of plastic tubing will do the same job?

Apparently the neighbourhood cats were taking a beating from blow guns in the married quarters when I was posted to Petawawa. It came down in orders to stop using them. Never found the culprit......I guess that he kept tight lipped about it.

Default Don't you guys watch spy movies ?

The bad Spy pulls out a blowgun disguised as a pen then shoots another guy in the neck with a poisen dart, he keels over dead.

Those things are deadly!

It's not about the blow gun. They simply don't want the OP to chase cats bare feet with nothing more than a grass skirt.

Surprised to see the fish cops had one in their tranquilizer kit. Always thought of them as little more than a toy.

Probably because the blow darts had a five dart magazine that the OP isn't sharing with us,,, hence making them a restricted weapon.

I also like the post about not smiling and showing your teeth too.

Had this happen a long time ago. My Dad bought a couple when we were in the states b/c they were fun to try and hit pop cans, etc. with. There were hard plastic blunt tips and little darts you could shoot through them.

He answered "no" to not having any weapons or firearms in the vehicle or holiday trailer. Border guards had a look through anyways and seen these in plain sight in the trailer. They were confiscated and Dad got in trouble over it but ended up just having to pay a fine.

We all had a good laugh about them being prohibited later on....

I heard they did preliminary testing on both Delicious and Spartan, but finally decided the tensile strength of the common Road Apple was the optimum.

Taste testing is scheduled, and results should be interesting.

Daisy collectors beware!!
Survey results conclude that 8 outta 10 international assassins prefer poison soaked BBs over blowguns...just a matter of time until CFC in their infinite wisdom declare Red Ryders prohibited weapons.

Back in the day when the list of prohibited weapons was compiled it appears that the minister or several of his staff were big martial arts movie fans. They have listed a collection of useless weaponry as prohibited and included blowguns without really specifying what makes a blowgun prohibited. We used to shoot beans out of long straws, no idea if this would/could draw a TAC team now.

My guess is it is prohib either due to barrel length or the possibility that it is a "tactical" blow gun. Hahaha

that is all true Mr .PET pierre elliot treudeau at the time said the blowguns could easily be smuggulged (french term) into the parliament buildings and SINCE THEY GO THROUGH A ROTTEN APPLE all the politicians would be at risk

Default It gets funnier.

This has turned into one of the funnier threads I have seen in a while, keep them coming, and I will help you out .. the border agents buddy (another agent) speculated that they were prohibited because someone might suck rather then blow......absolutely true, I nearly stained my whities I was laughing so hard.
