Default Nikon Monarch 3

Just ordering my new scope for my 7mm08. I was going to get the 3-9x42mm but i have found a deal on he 4-16x42mm in BDC with side focus. Wondering is this is too much scope for the gun?

Default Monarch

Did you go on Nikons "Spot On" website to evaluate the ballistics and holdover points to your type of load/bullet?

If not, I highly recommend you do. Its not too much scope for a 7-08, IMO, I have a Monarch 3 2.5-10x42 mounted on my 7-08 and its a wonderful thing. Especially after I found what the ballistic holdover points were for the BDC reticle on my factory loads.( I shoot factory rounds, no handloads yet). Takes a little time at the range to learn your holdover points and get good with them, once you do, you will be impressed.

Great choice on that scope you will love it, once you get used to it.

If it's for hunting I'd stick with the 3-9. What's the weight difference, and do you want a side focus on a hunting scope?

Personally I do really like nikon monarchs the glass is great, but 4-16x42 in my opinion is to much for a big game rig.

The $374 US price is great though and the weight difference is just two ounces.

K here's what you do, by the scope because its a good deal and stick it on there. Then wait for a good deal on a 3.5-10 or 4-12 and by it, then get a new gun for the Nikon.
