No rules or regulations to follow = unregulated hunting.

Anyone no matter race that can prove they need to hunt to survive can apply for a subsistence license.

Yes but... why is it called a subsistence hunt when it is not used as such?

There's two sides of the fence and I'm on the wrong side to answer that.

The hunt in question wasn't about substinence it was about reconciliation and pay back for wrongs done way back.
I hope those Simpcw sharpshooters are feeling better now and feel a sense of accomplishment for providing for their community
Ohh.... and showing the young that were along...the traditional way of life.

Extremely Credible. Feel free to shoot me a pm if you wish to discuss. For obvious reasons, I am not prepared to go into details on the open Forum. Already the source is feeling the heat for releasing these, no point in adding any more of that than I already have.

On an aside note, if you were to have a look at the two hunter's Facebook photo's it is extremely obvious that they are rather well off, and hunt a lot of areas / animals that most of us would give our eye teeth to do so. By no means whatsoever was this a "needs" hunt. Period.

And you would win.
This was organized to set a definite precedence in Jasper, all other National Parks and Protected Areas. Cat is now out of the bag. This type of action will now be happening on a re-occurring basis (remember there are 25 aboriginal groups on the Jasper Forum ALONE!). In all actuality, I will be downright surprised if it does not spread to many other protected areas & parks within the year...

Sad Days...

The precedence had already been set regarding hunting in National Parks, this is nothing new.

The issue at hand is Parks Canada giving a specific Community access for hunting.

I personally believe the move to allow hunting in Jasper could be a good thing.
With good management, there is no good reason to NOT allow hunting in these areas.
The main problem I see here is that Parks Canada has decided to allow access based on race and ethnicity, rather than to ALL Canadians.

Yep, National parks are everyone's parks. Everyone should get to hunt there if we were all equal.

While we may disagree on the hunting of National Parks (UNLESS a population / habitat management requirement - NOT for Jollies & trophies alone!) I concur with your last statement fully. Understand however, it will be a cold day in hell before any non-FN EVER is offered that opportunity. They now have a claim to the situation, and they ain't ever likely to give that up.

Chief Matthews said that this hunt has enabled them to "feel better about ourselves".

While the park superintendent may have signed the closure, it was undoubtedly at the direction of the Federal Government who was in fact overseeing and negotiating in secrecy with regard to this action for approximately two years.

The Park Super was likely forced to sign it. Probably would have had to resign if he didn't.

Not very coy of them to have pic's circulating already.
Mind you ...judging by the rifle and the clothing it's quite clear these guys are too proud to be smart about this event....and the bragging benefits will outweigh trying to be somewhat ''smart'' about trying to make this a hunt that was necessary for healing and reconciliation ( if there is such a thing )

I guess the Chief did say its somebody else's turn now...so I guess they got what they were after and couldn't care less now ?

Hopefully those pic's get out for all to see.
Maybe they can make it to all the news outlets.
That would make for some good news wouldn't it.

I see you have abandoned your questioning of their validity. Good, I rather dislike being called into question by someone I do not know.

The "release" of the pictures was purely accidental. But as you note, some simply cannot help but to share in the "triumphant moment".

On the balance of your last post, I completely concur.

They made a fair bit of noise about getting this hunt off the ground once the cloak of secrecy was accidentally opened, but now appear to be hanging their heads and taking the back door out...

Hmmmmm.....

It's the internet - I take very little "personally" ;-)

No repercussions for me, however the fellow I got them from is getting heated up pretty damn good. Doing what I can to dissuade that...

Cheers,
Nog

PS: He did was he felt was right, and has zero regrets even with the heat.
