A little too early. Not blocked up proper.

You may as well call that 6" of effective "black ice". That frozen white layer of frozen flood water does not provide the same strength as "black ice".

Default ice thickness

I would not drive on Wizard yet. The holes that I drilled only had 10 inches and the ice wasn't black. There are some dark spots on the lake as well.
Very few people out, only a couple or sleds and a few quads.

Default coal lake ice

I drove on today on the north end after seeing alot of vehicles out there. When i was last on there in mid Dec with the quad it had 10-11 inches so i figured it had to be at least 13-15.Boy was I wrong.I fished on the east side where the banks stick out.I drilled a couple holes closer to shore and didnt think much but when i drilled about 60 yds from shore the ice was only 11-12 and my 3/4 ton diesel was right beside that!Bottom line take caution out there.I did a dumb move and just assumed that it had to be thick enough cause of all the trucks out there.

Went out to Carson this afternoon. Approx 18-19 inches of ice where we were off the sea wall.

Was out at Lac St. Anne on New years day and had read 14" of ice on here. I was south east shore near Alberta Beach about 500 yds out from shore. If you take the surface snow out of the equation, Ice was 10".

2019-01-06: Twin Valley Reservoir - Parkland Road - 12 inches of good quality clear ice. No snow on the ice; good for skating. Pike bite was very slow, but landed a couple keepers.

Pigeon I am now seeing 11-12 inches of good ice. Someone reported only seeing 9 inches though so it is still not vehicle ready. Maybe I'll just stick with the skidoo for a while yet.

That was me seeing 9 in out there. There was about 3 in of frozen slush on top. This was darn near the middle of Pigeon. Nothing for ice cracking. Lots of floodwater as well. I parked the truck on at mulhurst and drove quad out there.

Nasty! Well that certainly proves how variable the ice is. Saw someone out in a pickup truck way out from Sandholm. I won't be doing that anytime soon. It is going to be cold (normal) over the next 3-4 days but the long term forecast indicates a return to higher than normal temps. I'm sticking with skidoo.

Yesterday out on Gull there is good ice close to shore but out towards the middle and in the South East end I was running into a few spots that had floodwater and only 6-8 inches of ice. Makes a guy nervous even on the quad

Crawling Valley had 10.5 inches. Fairly consistent and solid, yet not dense black ice. I drove on but did have some willies while driving.
Ice was bare and a bit slick but not deadly slick. Pike bite was decent, but Walleye were scarce and as unaggressive as they get. Only found fish at 8 feet, and didn’t see any perch. They all started to cruise and bite at around 3 till 5-5:30 then nothing till almost 7. I was there at 10:30.
I was hyped about my camera recordings until I got home and realized I had connected the camera to the wrong cable, Do’h.

Last I read was 13", but I'm curious about this as well. We're heading out there next weekend and hoping it's good 'n' thick. The one of the Konrad twins who does most of the FishingGeeks vids tells me you can't drive on at Kananaskis (legally)...walk on only allowed...

Was at pigeon last week and parked on at Mulhurst. Didn’t notice if anyone had driven south to the point. Was wondering if anyone has driven out that way yet. Hauling all the gear on the quad and sled was tough but might still have to if ice hasn’t gotten better. Any info is welcomed
