Default Black Bear from Ground Blinds?

So, I posted earlier talking about how I will get an opportunity to do some bear hunting this year. I am a complete n00b @ bear, as most of my experience has been confined to whitetail and varmints.

So I was pretty jazzed and assumed that we'd be hunting from a tree stand, but my friend wants to hunt from a ground blind. I asked how so? And he said a tent, renforced and protected on three sides by logs.

How safe is this?

Should I be carrying a 12 gauge slug gun for, as Hudson put it, 'Close Encounters?'

He seems to think it's safe, and 'exciting' but the use of the word exciting threw up a red flag and I wanted to ask you experienced guys.

Perhaps I'm just an, ah, yanno that thing found in my wife's pants...

Thanks.

My last bear with the bow was shot while I was standing beside the tree with my stand in it. You should be fairly safe, as guys hunt bears from the ground quite a bit. Just don't shoot the bear if he's facing you, and have the gun ready in case you get a trouble maker and need to take care of him.

I took a bear this year from the ground, I was just sitting in a camping chair lol. I wouldn't worry much, but a shotgun in the blind won't hurt either.
