Default Catch large male beaver

If you go to a beaver colony and scoop into plastic bags the scent mound, then take it to different colony and place it where the male can smell it. He will be very aggressive and want to cover it with his own scent. Place it in a place where it is good to place a trap or location for a easy shot. Put it so the smell drifts over not away from the pond. Usually he will come there as soon as he smells it.

Or you can make your own scent mound with your own lure. Less to haul around.

Default Beaver

Not every one makes their own and you can never make it as good as a beaver can. When you leave a new scent at a colony, you also pick up a scent mound to move to next colony. When they smell it they cruise in without hesitating, sometimes running around on the bank, thumping their tail, grunting looking for a fight.

I make my lure from the oil glands. I put a small drop on my coat front pocket and have watched them come straight across the pond to me. Usually sit about ten yards or so up the bank, and have had them come up the bank to the point that I was shooting them at the end of my barrel.

A small amount of the mound taken in a ziplock or butter tub doesn’t seem to hard to carry. Like taking a wolf turd from a different pack into your area.
