So nice that my proficiency is thus recognized, without my having to fire a single shot.

Seriously though, those 500 M rams are totally doable. But certainly not by me.

edit: casual, it's just more fun this way.

I would be open to amending the rules so the a Challenge can be shot at 200M, but I would prefer to see how it goes at a hundred first ...

Dropping from 300 yards to 200 was a game changer for me. Made a huge difference.

Default Lessons learned

Well I went to try out a new load for the freehand challenge. I figured I could toss a few components together and probably get a 1" group and do this. I now this doesn't happen. I did find a very consistent 3MOA group for my rifle though. The second things I learned is that I cannot shoot in insulated coveralls. I didn't even bring the target home. I will save this challenge for a later date when its warmer out and I can develop a decent target load for my rifle.

I just spent another $400 on ammo. These challenges are killing the hunting fund.

Sorry, but what rifle are you shooting that will only give you a 3 MoA group? What bullets are you shooting in it?

No need to be sorry my good man, here is the skinny.
Its everyones favorite the push feedin', plunger ejecting, accutrigger sportin' Salvage long range hunter chambered in 6.x284 Norma!

I usually load 140gr Berger VLD's on top of 50.2 grains of H4831, ignited by a WLR primer and housed in a piece of Nosler brass. This is my sub MOA hunting load.

Todays nightmare was by mixing 107gr SMK's with 42gr of Varget.

I will keep working with the SMK's so I can get a nice soft shooting target load.

I gave it a go yesterday with the A2 Match Rifle on steel for starters, needless to say I never bothered pinning up that paper. I know the rifle is not legal for this challenge but I think it is the only one I have a chance with. Will try again tomorrow, minus the coffee and Rockstar drink on the way to the range

Bump for summer interest. And don't forget to try the 300 or 500 yard Challenges if you are so inclined. Weather is decent, not too many mosquitoes to bother on the long walks.
And, if anyone can find tacks...they are in season.

My targets from today I'm trying now for opensights my tikka hunter just missed with 2 shots 30 06 there is 13 there the one on the 10 ring is a sighter. My scoped rifle I'm trying for 6 inch it took 14 to hit with 12. This is the howa 243 I was complaining about on another thread but it's now a favorite. The trigger is good even if it might as well be single stage and it turned out my leupold 12x scope was not moving the cross hairs half the time on horizontal adjustment no wonder it was all over the place. The 30 06 load is 110 gr privi round nose . I have got them to shoot close enough to my full power loads which is good because I ran out and shot the last 4 rounds with 150 gr. And 48 gr of n140. It's 26 gr n110 in the privi load.

Nice work Marxman. I'm still avoiding this Challenge. You going to send that Leupold for warranty?

Default Challenge!

Took a rip at this yesterday. With my oldest son looking on, I managed 11/12. The 1/12 I pulled to the right, into my other circle. I was shooting my sons Rem Model 7 compact in 7-08, loaded with Hornady 120 grn over 42 grn of varget. Pics to follow if I can ever figure out the photobucket thing.

I agree. That's good shooting, but there was a guy on AO who no longer is allowed to post, used to be able to do that at 500 yards. Think his handle was Edmhunter

BBD. That is some great shooting. I will be the first to admit that unless I have bags or a bipod I suck at freehand. As a kid I I used to catch heck if I didn't shoot the muskrats or squirrel right in the eye.

Thumbs up

Thanks guys! That little Remington is a gem to shoot. I might make the targets easier to see in that 2x-7x and stretch it out to 200. Should be a humbling experience Big thanks to Cat for posting and saving the wife's computer from an early and violent demise... I'm going to dig up a couple of the other challenges that I've been wanting to try and give them a go as well. Cheers.

BBD

With a bit of luck I may be able to get some shooting in myself, tomorrow morning.
