Default phone plans

All I can add is do not even consider Bell. Not worth the trouble or hassle.

Anyways, since my old thread was bumped by who now's who, I switched all my phones to Shaw for $25/mth. Coverage is actually pretty good because my wife had to stay with Telus to bring her phone charge down before we could pay it out, and we were at a cabin West of Bowden nestled in trees, and i had coverage and she didn't. The only draw back is they give 25g in major city centers and 2g outside which sucks when I go out fishing/camping, doesn't take long to suck up 2g..LOL

I thought minimum was around $60? What do you have included? Data, long distance calling, unlimited texts?

Companies used to be good, not if you want a deal you have to be a new customer or stolen from another provider. There is 0 loyalty to the customers. I might start switching back and forth. I have had the same cell # for 30 years with Telus, and it sure has not been painless.

short version- call Telus to cancel. They ask why. You say Bell has better offer. If you get the right person in half a dozen tries they keep you for another term.

I have been with telus since cell phones came out. Still have my original number. Telus has always treated me like gold. Zero complaints. Granted I spent a lot of years spending $1000/month while at work in the old Northwest Tel days.
Whenever I talk to them, I go directly to customer loyalty.

That's sounds like a pretty good deal... No contract ? Did you have to buy a phone or something ?

That is a really great deal. I checked out the Telus site, and it is listed as their seniors plan. If you qualify that is pretty hard to beat.

Why are all these old threads being brought back to life lately?

Because people are bored and searching for something to talk about, the covid thread got shut down and the super politics thread has about run it's course

That and saving some money is getting a lot more focus.

I did a little further checking on the Telus $25 plan, it only applies to seniors classed as low income. Guess I will have to stick to my grandfathered Kodoo $35 plan.

This past Black Friday I shopped around a bit and ended up going through costco. It is a company account but got 2 new phones (samsung s20) and 20g of data each as well as $600 in costco gift cards. Total is $110 a month for both.

Because spammers and bots seem to target old threads in an attempt to get a foothold without being noticed by the mods. But someone always notices and we then remove them from the site but don’t always send the thread back to the basement.

There is no loyalty and retention department anymore. Just managing supervisor. I worked for Telus, am familiar with them.

Yup.

Can’t beat Shaw. Just need to be on their internet also.

Still you can have up to 7 lines depending.

Maybe once a guy retires

I’m paying Koodo $40, for 4gb and unlimited nationwide call and text. I’d be all over that Telus plan like a fat kid on a Smartie!! I need money for powder n primers!!!

Absolutely true. My wife has her phone on Shaw for almost 2 years, no monthly charges at all. She buys a 1G of data for $10 every 90 days, or sooner on the rare occasion it runs out before the 90 days is up. Have had zero issues with reception. Anywhere my Telus towered phone works, hers has worked too (Shaw uses Bell outside the cities). Has saved over 1000 bucks so far. I still keep my Kodoo plan because when you get way back in the boonies up north, Telus still has better coverage than Bell.

I'm with Virgin Mobil. Got a new phone/plan a few months back at $69.25/ month w/ 25 gig data, unlimited call & text. 5G where available. Virgin has never bumped up rates in the 7 or 8 years I've been with them.

Didn't think Virgin offered 5G...

I have been talking to them for a few months about a S22 ultra, and the manager told me that. Mine is a business account, may be different for personal.
