Default 45-70 dangerous game bullets/defense

hey guys im sure this one has been up B4.
just wondering whats a better/best factory loaded ammo for the 45-70 ?for bears /defense. i was looking at the hornady 325 gr lever revoulution ammo, seems good is probably the deadliest

my gun is a double barrel bakail. so middle of the road pressure/power i think

probably anything with a 300 gr pill up close will drop a bear hey?

any personnel experience stories are appreciated with a 45/70.

as a side note what about handload bullets?ive never loaded for bear defense, so what would i want to start with a nosler or barnes or something?

what type of bullet would you want again, non expanding -deep pen right?.like the opposite of a deer round right? thanx

Not sure if your gun could handle the pressure but Buffalo Bore loads pretty hot bear loads for 45/70.

I use garret ammo in a 540gr hardcast, well I carry it in my sleeve never had to use it yet ( fortunately ) but have heard good things.

I don't think you have even close to an issue with those heavy weights. My friend who lives in Whitehorse anchored a huge grizz with a .270 and won the prize knife for 2005. If he can do it with a 150gr pill, you should have no issues, just don't shoot it out of a Remlin if you want to cycle a 2nd round without objections from the gun.

The ammo suggested above is not available in Canada after checking it out with the manufactures...to bad I really wanted to try the Garrett ammo.

I shoot the lever revolutions in 325gr. Hit a bear last year with one cause my bow no longer seemed adequate for the situation My Exit wound on the bear was soft ball sized, it was not a perfect shot but he dropped. Now it was just a black but i would feel comfortable if i met a grizz bear with it too.

mines a sxs double barrel, catinthehat says it only rated for about 30,000 psi, also the gunsmith i showed it to says theres a locking thingy missing(for high pressure) so keep it toned down. so no i dont think it can handle the 500gr hard as duck handloads.

eventually i might handload it with the 400 gr speer /barnes

yah all the LeveRevolution ammo except the 30-30 I've seen is always cheaper than Federal blue box.
