Default Western artist

I picked up this painting from a customer of mine today. Does anyone know anything about the artist? It has the initials JB in the bottom right corner.
Notice the ram in the bottom left corner.
It’s similar to Charlie Russell print that I have.

It is quite common for aspiring artists to copy the pieces of established artists that they admire and would like to emulate. It helps them try to learn the methods and techniques they like and respect. As long as they are not marketing them as their own designs it is totally acceptable, but there will not be much value in them typically.

Is that a painting or a giclée?

I had to google giclée.

Top one is definitely not a Russel. pretty mediocre copy. Bottom one is Russel print, cheap like Borscht on the net.

I would bet the JB painting is a paint by number oil painting of a Russel original. Oil paint by number kits were popular in the mid 1900's.

I have a paint by number oil painting my grandfather did in the 60's. I remember it taking him a couple months and his house smelled of oil paint.

Top is not looking like a Charlie Russell, maybe rougher copy. "Meats not meat till its in the pan" is one of my Russell favorites, imagine there are a fair few C. Russell fans on the forum!

Of course there are. He was a fantastic artist.

I spend some time most years on the veranda of an abandoned southern Alberta homestead.
A visit with the neighboring rancher taught me that Charlie spent several summers there, painting in the wind and mosquitos....

He put his blood and soul into his work.

That's quite cool. Obviously you don't have to give up exact spot or anything, but any chance you'd be willing to give general area?

Would like to visit museum dedicated to him in Great Falls some day.

It is JB Lucas, I know he was in the Cut Bank Montana area in the 1950's. Some info can be found on goggle.
