Default 500lb cougar

checked the crackbook today and there are claims of a 500lb cat being shot by Pouce Coupe.

fact or fiction?

picture makes it look like a big cat but we all know how the art of photography can make things bigger than they are. 500lbs is an awefully big claim

will hold off on posting a pic so i dont step on any toes.

I'd say fiction... I can't see a mountain lion getting that big.

But it was shot around Pouce Coupe where everything is big.

Including those things on the ground in the bull pen.

Physical characteristics

Cougars are slender and agile members of the cat family. They are the fourth-largest cat;[31] adults stand about 60 to 90 cm (24 to 35 in) tall at the shoulders.[32] Adult males are around 2.4 m (7.9 ft) long nose-to-tail and females average 2.05 m (6.7 ft), with overall ranges between 1.5 to 2.75 m (4.9 to 9.0 ft) nose to tail suggested for the species in general.[33][34] Of this length, 63 to 95 cm (25 to 37 in) is comprised by the tail.[35] Males typically weigh 53 to 100 kg (115 to 220 lb), averaging 62 kg (137 lb). Females typically weigh between 29 and 64 kg (64 and 141 lb), averaging 42 kg (93 lb).[36][37][38] Cougar size is smallest close to the equator, and larger towards the poles.[3] The largest recorded cougar, shot in Arizona, weighed 125.5 kg (276 lb) after its intestines were removed, indicating in life it could have weighed nearly 136.2 kg (300 lb).[39] Several male cougars in British Columbia weighed between 86.4 and 95.5 kg (190 to 210 lb).[40]

but could be this

Used to be a lot of wacky tabbacy around Pouce Coup. Sounds like maybe a case of altered consciousness?

Just sayin'....reminds me of the 1,000 lb. pig that was shot in SK.

Or that 60" bull moose up north somewhere (sorry, couldn't help it )

I saw a picture of the one this man is talking about from a fellow operator who lives in Dawsons Creek. The story I was told was that the cougar was shot on Bear Mountain, south of Pouce Coupe/Dawson Creek, and that they estimated it to weigh 270ish pounds. It was a very big animal in the photo and I personally don't think they're exaggerating that much. No way it's 500lbs though.

I wonder how many cattle from the Loiselle Ranch were lost to that kitty?

At least nobody was eaten at the ski hill.

I know, the first pic is the one making the rounds on facebook, only story I saw it attached to was the Walsh Ab. one. Thought maybe some hijacked the pic for another BS story as it looks very large.

It wasn't BC and it wasn't 270 pounds. I hunted with them a couple days after they killed that cat. AB kitty a shade over 200 pounds. Still a pig.

I killed a 300 pound lioness in S.A. that dwarfed every cougar I have ever seen in size. With a full belly full of deer you'de be hard pressed to find a cougar in the 225 pound range. And hungry that cat would be under 200.

Heard the same story, just outside of dawson creek. A co-worker showed me a picture... I'll get him to send it to me in the AM, and post it.

That picture is totally "shopped".

The noggin on that thing is larger than a brown bear... cat that big would would have problems even climbing a tree.

Guy showed me an email on his phone today. Said the cat was shot in december near grande prairie and it was a world record(didnt mention how many pounds). Story was he went outside to call his dog and all he found was a bunch of blood and tracks, so he followed them a little ways and caught sight of this cat and eventually ended up shooting it.(the guy in the picture had a bow beside him and man it was a huge looking cat)

But who knows, i dont believe much unless i see it on here where people know people. And so far i havent seen that cat on the forum.
