Default 6.5x55 And H4831

Anyone have any load data for 130 grain Berger's using H4831?
My manuals don't list for 130's but I know a lot of people use h4831 with them.
Starting load and Coal would be appreciated.
Thanks

I would suggest that you use a different powder. Pretty sure you will find H4831 too slow and too bulky if that is what you have. Try RL-22 or H-100V for that combo. IMR 4831 would work as well.
What action are you using ?

I must say I disagree with the above. Although, some people are getting really awesome speeds with the RL powders. I can never find them reliably so I have never used them.

I had a 6.5X55 on a 700LA. I used 48grs H4831SC (never tired the non SC but it should be close) under a 140gr Berger. I was pushing mid 2,800 FPS. It could have gone higher but that load was really good for me. I was running a 26" barrel.

I think with a 130 you could be in the 2,900 FPS range with 4831.

I would agree that you can use better powders than H4831 for a 130 Berger in 6.5x55.
It will work, but I would try the following first:

RL26
IMR7828ssc
RL22

SAAMI cartridge OAL is 3.150".

To arrive at a starting and max load, we would need to know if your rifle is based on a modern action or not, as Salavee mentioned earlier.

The reason for H4831 is I have 6lbs of it. I'm using two different rifles. A Tikka m695 with 24" barrel and a Shultz and Larson with mauser98 action 26" barrel

I have used 140 Berger's 2800 fps and 120 grain 3000fps ballistic tips.
Both with h4831 and with amazing accurcy results.
So I thought 130's wouldn't be a problem. Expect my manuals don't Gove any data for 130's
Only 120's and 140's
Wtf?

Start with the load you use for 140's and work up.

That's great. If the powder is working for you, there is obviously no need to change.
Quickload shows that a charge of 50.0 grs H4831 will get you in a projected ballpark of 2955 fps with a compressed load @ 105 % density / 97% powder burn /57,300 psi./COL 3.150/ Berger 130 Hunting VLD / 70 deg F.

Just as a comparison, a charge of 53.0 gr of RL-26 will achieve 56883 psi for a MV of 3094 / 100 % density and 100 % burn. I have an Xtra lb of it if you want to try give it a try. Either way , enjoy.

All appreciated

My 6.5X47 loves the 130 Berger Hunting. Awesome deer bullet. I can push them at a comfortable 2980 fps out of a 26" Broughton with H4350. I would expect your 6.5X55 would be well over 3000 fps with R26, but I have no experience with the 6.5X55.

Mine also works great with 48 gr H4831 and Berger 140 VLDs
