Default Upper McLeod River

I am planning to fish the upper McLeod river this week. I never fished this river before. I plan to stay on McLeod campground.

Do you have any hints or tips?
Where to fish?
What flies?

Any advise is appreciated. I'm pretty new to fly fishing.

We fished there on the May long weekend and the water was really high. I'm guessing its still going to be high this week. We caught nothing and we didn't see anyone else have any luck either

Hey i have fish the McLeod river lots when young (Hinton/Robb road)

i would try down stream of campground walking hole too hole

try too get your nymphs down in holes/ log jams

at the head of holes your Grayling maybe there so use your top water stuff

if you can find back eddy's at front of holes is your best bet

Rainbows will be hole too hole ... i would use a indicator and a couple of fly's

as always when wading rivers if you are going down stream

you are chumming the holes below where your fishing just by walking

the trout that were dormant will now be feeding .. as they are opportunist

i like too look under rocks in riffles to match the hatch so too say

wade out above holes and look turning rocks in current so bottom can be seen

if you google earth the river you will see those areas you can drive close then walk in

if your after Bulls then articulate flies work well but will take lots of walking

they best time too fish McLeod is later in summer but the Grayling do run up in June

even got some 17 + inchers

remember above Whitehorse creek is Closed

ps this time of year the river can be dangerous (just saying)

as always this is

Food for thought

Bring cash for the campground, 11 bucks a night. And an axe to split. Haha it’s a nice campground and probably won’t be too busy. Only about 10 people there 2 weeks ago. Watch out for rcmp checkups. They surprised me one morning VERY late in the season last year. I have no had a lot of luck there, but it’s a beauty spot. Had another fellow getting bites a couple weeks ago with a nice big streamer right on the corner where everyone tosses a line.

Watch out as the Gregg is closed right there, so have to stay on the McLeod.

Are you riding solo? And do you have waders. I was considering heading there this weekend.

Sweet, thank for all your tips and hints. I'll head out there tomorrow or Thursday. And yes I'm solo there and have waders. Will have my R-Pod trailer with me.
