Default Why No Hunting Signs Are Posted

I just really feel like I have to say this. Early Saturday morning in my home just south of Pincher Creek, Alberta, a bullet came through the outside basement wall, through a metal valence, through the living room, through another inside wall, and finally stopped when it dented a metal filing cabinet. Because it was Remembrance Day weekend, my parents, my sister and brother in law, and their two little kids were all in the house when it happened. A few inches one way or another would have meant shattered glass or, do I even need to say this, a family member of mine getting shot in their own home. My point is this. I know hunting can be fun, and I know a lot of you reading this are in full hunting mode right now. But please know that shooting guns is not all fun and games. You have a responsibility to know how to hunt safely. Don't shoot a bullet into open air, make sure there is a background for it to hit. Don't hunt on someone's land that you don't have permission to hunt on (my parents do not allow hunting on their property). Have a little integrity. And use a reasonable gun. I am so grateful that the worst thing that happened was a few holes in the house, but please, if you hunt, let this be a reminder that hunting is dangerous and if you are going to go hunting, you need to know what you're doing. People shouldn't feel afraid inside their own homes during hunting season.

How would a no hunting sign help this at all? They shot your house, not a animal on your property.

A house was shot; do you really know what species did it?

I am glad no personal injury occurred.

To clarify, it was not my house that was shot. It was a community member south of Pincher Creek.

Are you pasting an article? The second sentence says it was your house.

My apologies, yes I did paste this article. It was sent to my wife by one of her former students who lives in the house.

Can;'t be a FMJ, they are illegal to use when hunting and the OP knows for sure it was hunters.

I think the point is obvious. The land was posted. Being posted land did not prevent some fool from shooting the occupied house.

I don't use Facebook and I can't find this news anywhere.

The RCMP release these reports fairly quickly.

You could post the perimeter of the entire quarter every ten yards and that will not stop a bullet...hope you called the cops etc and no one was hurt.

I know the family, I spoke with the homeowner about it and saw the pictures on his phone. It happened alright.

I am afraid if you do not understand the point being made, you are likely not capable of extrapolating the relationship between the house being shot and the demonstrated behavior of irresponsible hunters carrying out careless and life threatening hunting practices.

To me it looked like a cup and core bullet and it did not expand. My initial thought is that it came from quite some distance.

Fmj? Highly doubt it was from a hunter. More of a messege for somebody.

I agree Chuck, I saw the pics on Facebook and it looks like a boat-tail cup and core. Perhaps was at a lower velocity when it hit the house and the one hole through the dry wall is oblong like it tumbled.

Oh I understand alright....its your rational that doesn't add up.

Quite obviously posting No Hunting signs has very little to do with a house been shot....and isn't the reason no hunting signs are put up.

This land you reported to be posted no hunting and the house on this posted land was shot (more than likely hit by a stray bullet).

So your astute deduction of this is why land is posted needs a little more thought.

None of my land was ever posted and never was my house shot!

Are you sure it was a hunter, using FMJ ammo?

Have a nice day.

It also looks like it could possibly be monolithic, but hard to determine from the picture alone. I agree it appears that a great deal of energy was already spent indicating some distance.

He blew the photo up for me and I'm pretty positive it had a lead tip.

My wild guess is it likely was a skyline shot with the shooter shooting up towards the skyline.
