Default Feild Quartering

I know this has been discussed before but I cant find any old threads.

When field quartering say, and elk in a back pack hunt :

Is the head valid for evidence of sex if un attached? or must the sex still stay on the tagged leg?

Can the legs below the knee be removed and the tag placed higher up?

thanks, and yes I know this has been discussed 18 million times. and yes I left F&W a message but that was 3 days ago and I never got a response

Removed head DOES NOT suffice....sex evidence must be present on the same hind that has the tag affixed. You can saw the lower leg off as long as the tendon can still hold the affixed tag.

if your in an area that is set for 6 point or better and theres evidence that its a male , then you better be able to prove that he had 6 points. same thing with the 3 point or better areas. as for a cow, i cant imagine that it would matter. i usually leave a does head and hide in the bush.

as for the tag, i only tag the animal through the tendon like that if im keeping it in that state. im if deboning because of the heat or to pack out it i just keep the tag with the meat. what i mean by that is that the animal was tagged properly and then i keep the used tag with the meat. if you dont tag properly its a 170 some dollar fine. seen it happen !

The tag NEEDS to be affixed to the animal in order to be completely legal....and it needs to be attached to the same quarter evidence of sex.

Otherwise the less than honest would have use of a "Velcro" tag...
