Anyone know if the paths along said canals are public or do you still need permission? Thinking of getting some exercise with the boy this weekend and trying to scare up some ducks
To be honest Im not sure but I would assume its private.
Either way ask for permission cause Im sure you will have birds dropping on private land anyway. Sneeking onto private land under a technicality (if it was public somehow) is no way to get farmers on our side.
It usually depends on where the irrigation canal is. Last year we hunted along a canal in the fall in the Western Irrigation District and I talked to a man earlier that year who works on some of the pumps alongside the canal who told me that hunting along the canals is fine as long as you do not hunt the ditch opposite the roads alongside the canals because those tend to be private.

The trap I set for you seems to have caught my leg instead.
Canals belong to the irrigation district. Talk to the district office.
