Default Elk hunting around the fort Assiniboine / swan hills area

Anyone seen/heard/hunted elk successfully round these parts??

I lost prime hunting access this year to a prime spot as the farmland got sold to a group of hunters that want it solely for the purpose of hunting it themselves
Now I have to look for somewhere else to find em, anyone knows of good areas in northern ab that's public land??

I've hunted the area for 10-15 years now and the only elk I have ever seen have been near the Althabasca river south of Fort Assiniboine. I know of maybe a handful of elk that have been harvested in that area.

There are elk on the other side of the river in the Community Pasture. Usually pretty busy.

Theres a local herd west of ft assiniboine. The land they hang out on is posted and he will never let anybody on. Good luck I saw a couple of dandys last year and they escaped!

Thanks guy, gonna spend some time up there and see what happens this year, going up with all the tags I can get so hopefully I should get a decent "something"

Any good areas I should be for elk though, Hinton I know of but it's pretty busy for both archery and rifle seasons
Not really worried about distance either

I Have hunted there a lot for deer in the past. There are elk but There ar few and the areas they are in are hard to get permission from. I would think if you wanted an elk that there are way better areas to hunt for an elk. For deer it is nice and there are some good moose around.
Area like Valleyview and Peace area are better for elk.

There are much better options. There are more elk around the seba beach area down to the lyndale-coyote lake area in 334. Also Northwest of chip lake up hwy 32 in the shinningbank lake area is a option.Another viable option is the down the Secondary 947 just before fox creek elk all through there along the berland river and thats all endless public land for miles. East of you there are elk north of two hills along the north sask river.

Good Luck

Hunted around Fort Assiniboine for 14 years. Elk around there are more of an urban legend I think. They are there but they are like ghosts. Definitely gotta agree that the Berland river area is a great choice.

Good luck!

There is a ton of crown land up that way, lots of roads too. Bring a GPS and explore.

Ive hunted 347 quite a bit not a ton of roads and just alot of small leases. 353 which is east of fox creek would be a better bet. good luck!!!!
