Default Penn's School

Just signed up for a 5 day taxidermy course at Penn's School of Taxidermy.

It should give me a good base to begin a great hobby.

Anyone have any feedback on the school?

I am planning on doing it as well when I get some time. Probably in the beggining of 09. What is the cost and what will you be doing for animals? I was going to do just deer sized animal and I wonder if they provide the cape?

It's a start but there is much more to learn once you are done with the course. This site helped me out a lot.(Thttp://www.taxidermy.net/forum/index.php)

I took a course there last year. As stated there is MUCH more to learn but it was a real eye opener. It teaches the basics, and gives you some confidence. Mark is a super easy going guy, he let me switch around my course so I only mounted stuff I was interested in which was very nice. Since then I met 2 "old-school" taxidermists that tell me whatever I want to know which is handy.
Good luck with the course!

Just re-read some of the posts. Yes they supply capes and skins(unless you want to bring your own) you just need to bring your own antlers.

Will do. I will add pics of whatever I can also. Not sure if the wife is too happy about me using her only set of antlers as my Guinea Pig.

Me and a buddy took the 3 week course last year. I felt it was really good and a good way to get started off with the basics. Mark and Sheldon definately know their stuff and are super guys, but like JohnB said, the taxidermy.net forum is awesome for help, tips and advice.

So after 3 weeks, what level did you consider yourself to be at? Would you feel comfortable doing your own shoulder mounts from now on, or even ones for friends?
