Default Business card pricing? Think I got ripped!

Just had some business cards made up.
The girl created them from scratch and they are one sided

I wanted 500 of them.

total bill was 609 bucks.

That seemed a little much to me.....

Anyone?

Kyle.. Not only did you get ripped off. But unless they are very unique and gold plated you should not have spent over $200.
All ours are full color (with pics) laminated one side and we spend approx $450 for 3,000.

Man.. you took it rough.

I usually get mine done at Staples. Always found them fair and prompt.

I tried to reason with her. The problem is shes been a friend for a long time and shes just getting her start.

She said they arent templated like most cards but specially printed.

It was only 12 hours gramps but yeah, your right, thats still to long.

Default Here is some online printers I have used

These guys have done a ton of business cards, postcards and promo stuff for me. Figure about 2 weeks delivery, although I have had it here within 5 days. Last order was $66 including shipping for 1000 cards printed both sides.

http://www.overnightprints.com/

I have heard positive things about, but have not used this Canadian site.

http://www.vistaprint.ca/

I have talked to my local printer who does some other stuff for me, and he says he can't even start to try and compete with these firms.

For sure , why would you pay that , lots of printing shops advertise 500 for 50 bucks , takum back man , demand a refund , thats outright robbery.

I commend you for trying to help out a friend...but if she is a true friend, she should appreciate that and not try to rip you off!! Logo design is hardly rocket science. And there is no special way of printing that should ever cost $609 for 500 cards. Sounds like you've learned a hard lesson, and she's in for an even harder lesson when her business fails because people can get it done cheaper and quicker elsewhere.

I am in the printing industry. We would have charged you less than that, .5 hour included to set up with a supplied logo from you, on white house stock. If you had more than 2-3 proofs, that would increase your price everytime. If she designed you a professional logo in that price from scratch, then you got a sweet deal. A professional logo design would cost you at least double that by itself from a designer. Our hourly rate for creation/design time is usually $76/hour, done by a experienced designer with an art degree. So I think you may or may not have been ripped off.

I agree with Murphy. We (Sportscene) design logos and such all the time. Depending on the client, logo design can take a long time with several proofs going back and forth with changes made. We do business cards full colour printed both sides for about $150 for 1000 if you provide the logo. If we design the logo, depending on the client, the price definitely goes up.

Default Ya just may have been ripped

My cards and I order a few thousand per year and a thousand duct promotional stickers, cards are in full unlimited colour becuase we inlude all the credit card logos, Mechanical contractors and our own logo. Art work and design is normally a seperate Item on the invoice we recieve but my cards and stickers are $350.00, maybe your next order will be cheaper as design and art is already completed, Same as when I order hats, jackets or other Items If I change companies I deal with I have to pay again for digitizing, only fair they should be paid for set up.

murphy and rob, thank you for making me feel better.

This girl has some sort of art design degree from university of Toronto and
works for an advertising company.

The cards are on a cream colour stock....I upgraded from the white.

I would post a picture of the cards but dont wanna be caught for spamming
