In the last doz. yrs. I've been to Wainwright 3 times with a friend. We always hunted the last 3 days of the season, and have gotten each time between 1 & 3 deer between the 2 of us. It is well organized, and I found it to be an enjoyable hunt, plus it offers a Dec. hunting experience. The base has a huge area for hunting, and we had no problem finding an area with no one else around.
You can phone me if you would like to discuss further. (403 288-3770)
Good luck!

Been doing the deer hunt for 20 yrs. Fun fun fun end to a season. Many landscape changes from a river valley to bush. Next year we will be back. Can't wait. Also always do the last 3 days.

I have hunted deer on the base four or five times. and moose once. The moose hunting is very good, and the deer hunting varies with the population. I expect to be hunting both moose and deer on the base next year.

My brother and I have the first rifle season. This will be our first time out there. Any tips would be nice. I think we were priority 9 when we decided to apply. Thanks!

Doing the primitive hunt, taking the bow and might borrow a smoke pole.

The landscape is a bit of everything. Battle River bluffs, Ribstone Creek willows, mature poplar stands, scrubby aspen clumps, and sand hills.

Population is like everywhere else in central AB..slowly rebounding from the tough winters of 2010 and 2012. Lots of recruitment the last few years and lots of the younger age structure bucks.

Should be lots of lots of open areas due to the hunting being later in the calendar this year. Access is great right now..no snow

Some areas are walk in only with some areas being AB's biggest truck hunt with most of it being something in the middle. The hunters decide if there is a "show" during the hunt or not.

Have fun and be safe! Happy hunting

S

I'm going Dec 12 this year. It's my first time though, I have no idea what to expect.

Awesome! Yah it seems that getting around should be good. Last time I was there 5 years ago there was a HUGE amount of snow and it was freakin cold!
