Default ID this fly please

I found this fly laying on the riverbank two weeks ago and I am not sure what it is. It looks similar to a caddis, but with wings and legs.

Any ideas? It does seem like a nice fly.

It's a stimulator

It's supposed to look like a number of different bugs the trout feed on.
It's a pattern that looks nothing like any one bug yet looks kinda like lots...
Hence the name ... It stimulates a feeding response from the fish...
Very good pattern to try at any time if year
Hope this helps

Yes ... I would say it wouldn't hurt to have a dozen or so in your box of different sizes and colors.
It's a good starter or searching pattern
It'll work on a caddis hatch, mayfly, grasshopper ect.
The one you are holding has rubber legs and wings and you can get them in thousands of different varieties.
They work just about everywhere ... Tie er on and good luck

in size 12-14 on streamer hooks it's my favorite tiny stream dry fly. I've nailed more than a few cutties and rainbows on them.

I like the look of that wing. Anybody know what the underwing material is?

it might be MFC wing material.... or something very similar at least. Comes in different patterns/colours

the picture is more specifically a stimulator chew toy. Stimulators with MFC foam wing and rubber legs added to the original stimulator pattern

I'm gonna have to try that MFC wing and see if it makes much difference, I like rubber leg stimmies for cutts (them and a turk's tarantula variant catch 90% of my cutties).
