Thumbs down Satellite TV- any deals out there?

I have been with Bell for about 20 years, have paid them close to $20,000.00 in the term. I called Bell today as my PVR is failing, to see what they have for offers.

While on hold for 20 minutes I decided to check on Telus to see what they have currently.
Telus- pay $75/6 months, then $125/mo for 2 years
get;
2 PVR's and 1 HD box,
300 channels (married, I like about 10, but you know)
Free 49" 4K tv or laptop,
$200 prepaid VISA,
Unlimited Internet,
$150 credit toward future billing

Bell- pay $128.00 per month
-Loyalty will 'give' a HD box that 'can be used as a PVR' IF you buy an external hdd
-0 discounts
-price going up all the time
-final offer $100 credit for the troubles

If Telus had wired internet here it would not even be a discussion, they have been promising it for 15 years.

I hate them both, what about SHAW, ROGERS? I don't have unlimited internet, no interest in a kodi or android box or streamed tv.

PLEASE keep it civil, if you don't see any value in TV or don't use it and are just looking for a fight please move on. I said please twice, no point in every thread being locked is there?

Went recently went to a Telus smart hub. So now that we've got reasonable internet, we've been doing a pile more Netflix/YouTube/streaming.

Our Bell sat is getting very little use now and we're probably just going to cancel. Just so expensive for what you get.

I have mcsnet, they have difficulty keeping speed up enough for browsing alone, streaming doesn't work 70% of the time.

Cable companies are like government parties
It’s who you can stomach giving the most money for the least return to
In the end you are never really satisfied

Been with shaw direct for years in the hills here.
Never any problems. Great customer service
when needed to change packages. They have
upgraded the receivers a few times, went smooth.
We don't use their shaw satellite internet.
A friend of mine has Telus satellite and alot
of the time when you change channels it takes
time connecting to that channel.

Bell asked me if I watched all the channels, said they could lower the bill if I drop some. Thats their loyalty plan, charge less for less services, ok.
I told them yes, excellent, great idea, lets drop all the music channnels, drop all the french, japanese, vietnamese, spanish and everything not English, likely about 120 of 280 channels.
'There is no money savings there, but I can drop some movie channels for you'

We were with Bell for 10 years at our last acreage. MCSNet for internet. We didn’t have many issues with Bell satellite tv, but MCSNet was terrible. Netflix was pointless as it was always buffering.

We moved closer to town and Shaw cable was available. I’ve been very happy with it to date. We added high speed internet from them. Zero issues with buffering high def shows or internet. Also added a landline through them for super cheap so the kids have a phone if we aren’t home.

I looked at Telus and didn’t see any real savings there over Shaw.

Ken.. Ask about Telus Pic TV.
I have internet and the channels I want for a total of $80/month.
Its not a big channel package by any means but I use net flix and Popcorn time for all my movies and TV shows.

Ken, if it makes you feel any better I am in the same boat as you.
Been with Bell since 1994 and I currently pay $141/month.
I have called and been given the exact same answer you got - "drop the movie channels and it will save you some money".
If I could find a feasible alternative I'd cancel in a second.....

The last I got out of them was an offer of $100 credit or free HD non PVR.

I said well I wont turn down $100

Telus was no deal either. Worst of 2 evils now.

I know you said no Android but I was in the same boat. Satellite is the only option where I’m at. I upped my wifi(Telus smart hub) and bought an android box. Cancelled satellite and haven’t looked back.

Dang tv is expensive in Alberta! Where I live in Montana satellite is my only option and I pay around 50$ month and while I don’t get every channel I get everything I want to watch. Netflix covers the rest.
