Default Dog needs surgery today. Information needed please

Looks like I'm going to be needing a surgeon to get my dogs leg plated. She is a Great Pyrenees so the vet suggests the bone be plated for best results. They are talking 3-4000$ to get the surgery done in Calgary. We are from brooks area. Does anyone have any vet/surgeons in Calgary that I could phone to get a possible better price. If I have to I will spend the 4K I won't hesitate but I'm hoping to find a better price out there somewhere.
Any info would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you
Kyle

Someone here might be able to recommend a place, your best bet to find options would be to look in the yellow pages and start making calls.

You might be able to get a better price if you are willing to drive a little ways out of the city.

Default Will drive

Oh yes I am willing to drive wherever needed. Looking for phone numbers on line right now (no phone book). I am pretty central to travel to any of our major centres.
Thank you

Sorry to hear about your dog ... hope all ends well.

From my understanding, plating a bone is not something an average vet can do, so I would imagine you will be limited to the few animal 'hospitals' in the greater Calgary area.

For good service and more reasonable prices, I would look outside the city. Call these two animal hospitals in Okotoks ... I've heard nothing but good things about them -

Good luck with it,

University of Saskatchewan has veterinary services. I have had good results dealing with them.

I used to hike/camp with a buddy who became a vet in the early 90's. Have not seen him since.
Became a vet because of his Springer with hip dysplasia. Super compassionate guy with dogs.
My first hike in Alberta was with him and his dog up to McPhail/ Lake of the Horns in the early 80's
Heard he practices out of the Edgemont Vet Clinic after a stint instructing at Olds College.
Maybe worth a call.

Try these people in Okotoks. I find they are cheaper than in Calgary.

Good luck, hope pooch will be OK.

Take him to USA. prices for vet type stuff is much better. Great falls or Kalispell would be good places to start.

Used to be - Scherr has raised his prices to be comparable if not more expensive than Western Vet in Calgary.

Great Falls is no longer worth the trip.

krtheGunslinger - PM incoming.

Could try these guys in Edmonton.

Not sure if they do that specific surgery but they did our dogs ACL. Very nice facility and good Vets.

I forgot and kept automatically renewing the pet insurance and it came in handy. Paid like 800 out of a 3600 bill for acl's. That insurance came in handy. I wasn't sure if the insurance was going to cover the second operation on the other leg but it did.

Montana is a great alternative if you've got the time. I researched it a while back and they have great doc's, facilities, etc and was a heck of a lot cheaper. Call for a price to see.
