Default target practise on a lake?

the next time i go ice fishing i was planning on bringing my new varmit rifle (.223) and do some target shooting. i imagine that the lake itself is considered crown land and as long as there is a safe backdrop i don't see why it would be a problem. last year at wab some guys were doing the same.

Why dont you just leave the gun at home?
The ones that are coming out to the lake to fish will likely be less stressed.
Tight lines,
Rob

I take mine for the Yotes going to and fro, and have sighted in the 22. It is crown land and the other people were a ways off in the other direction, give er.

Legal? Yes (unless unsafe), but probably not a good idea.

The only "backstop" on a lake is the shore, so the question is: is the shoreline crown? If not, do you have permission from the owner to shoot on(to) their land?

Shoot at a formal range, or get permission to shoot on private land... or travel far enough so that your shooting doesn't spoil someone else's recreation.

Which lake? Certain lakes disallow firearms discharge due to lake front properties. Check the county rules.

Default target on lake

Do I read you correct. You want to shoot away on a lake while families are ice fishing. We have a bunch of idiots shooting on Wabamun lake while families want to enjoy cross country skiing, ice fishing etc It is not just the high risk of shooting someone, they have our dogs hiding in their houses because they think the 3rd world war has started. What a bunch of fools! Go to a proper shooting range.

Shooting off of wabamun lake wouldn't be a good idea. So where would you shoot to ensure it's 100% safe. You have Seba beach on the west. The mine and cottages along the south. Town of wabamun, rail road tracks, road and cottages on the north.

I personally wouldn't do that.

Seems like a bad Idea to me no matter how you look at it. An accident waiting to happen.

X2 One thing way up north in a secluded bay with no one around a totally diffrent thing on somewhere like Wabamun. Those guys need a head check.

I wouldn't unless it was a very remote lake that I had all to myself. Probably not even then. Personally i would prefer a place sheltered from wind to sight in a varmit rifle.

a little surprised at some of the responces. i guess i'm more concerned if it is legal or not.
if i do decide to do some target practise i'll be sure that i am well away from other anglers and have a safe backstop.
not talking about going rambo at wab. boat launch on family day. lol
as for an accident waiting to happen, i suppose that depending on who you are anytime you go hunting or fishing you can say it's an accident waiting to happen. if it's not safe don't do it.

True. If I see someone doing that from my house -I live by the lake - I'll make sure that the truck won't move until the RCMP come pick you up for a ride. Before your free ride, I'll hand said RCMPs a USB key with a video recording of your prowess.

You want to shoot*? Go to a fracking range with a solid backstop.

Crownland or not, people live by those areas.
