Ditto on that. Had the same with one of my cars long ago. Exacerbated by cold weather.

Check to see if its vehicle speed at 80kms or engine rpm at that 80kms by downshifting into second or what you need to do. May be tied to wind? or rpm? or transmission.

I'm with Ken on this one. If it only happens at 80k and up, I say air movement over something. Someone prank you and put one of those whistles in your exhaust pipe

Where do you hear the sound coming from? Can you hear it driving slow with the windows down? Does it get louder the faster you go? Does it change when you turn a sharp corner?

Have you checked your fan belts and pulleys? I had a tensioner pulley make a squeal like a cat was under the hood.

These help to locate and eliminate.

Is the sound rpm dependant or specifically related to vehicle speed? If speed related when the sound is present does it change at all when the brakes are applied or when the steering wheel is turned?

Make sure every window is sealed up at the top, put some duct tape all around your windshield and do a test drive. Other than that, just touch your battery cables together and that should do it.
Whatever you do, DO NOT go to a seasoned pro for a free road test

Idler bearing or water pump? Bearings going bad make terrible noises. Wheel bearing? Alternator?

I'm far from an expert, but belts/pulleys were the first thing that came to mind for me.

What about wind whistling off your antennae I know if I have my road radio antennae on my truck it makes a high pitched whine noise like you are describing. Just a thought.

High pitched whine like you describe is not usually wind. If it were it would be different depending on direction of travel on Windy days. Most likely bearings, or something rubbing. Varying the RPM above 80 kph will tell you pretty quick. Advice to shift from OD to Drive or even second should tell you pretty quick if it is engine speed. If just going faster from 80 it gets louder likely something rubbing in the drive train.

Let us know when you figured out what it was.

Have your yokes checked on your drive shaft .
This is not a 100 % way to check them ,but give it a try if you do not want to crawl under your car.

Place your car on a level area .
Leave in park. Engine not running.
Stand in front or rear of car and push it forewords and backwards .
If it rocks a lot ,they are really bad.

This method does not all ways work if they are worn a little.

Let me know what you find .(PM)

No offence JR but i don't think this is a great way of checking anything as it would show the sum of all clearances or wear in the driveline.

No offence back to you ,but like I said not a 100 % way to check them .
I have rocked many cars and trucks as a tech for 35 years just to find the yokes are gone.

And yes , Bad yokes with all the rollers out can make some very strange sounds.
