Sure would be nice if the league went to 16 teams.. then maybe the players would have to put out every night to keep their jobs.

I remember that too.....it was great to watch. The young guns were on fire, thought they'd rip it up the following season, nope.

Hopefully we can pull it off some how, think we still may need some help from some other teams to do it

GO FLAMES GO

yeah no kidding hey... 16 teams will never happen. I don't think it is as much about effort as it is about watered down skill. Right now you have a lot of bubble players on each team that have to try every night or they won't make the team. I think salaries and long term contracts have a big bearing on their effort as well. look at guys like Federov and Yashin. prime examples.

I was referring to the year the Oil missed the playoffs by like a game a few years back...I was not referring to the year the Flames actually won a CUP

Good effort today. But we need GOALS!!!
Did Iggy miss the flight?
Honestly, I wonder if he is hurt? He just isnt pulling it all together.
I heard a interesting thought. Make him a Assistant. Perhpas that will take some of the wieght off his shoulders. Not sure what I think of that idea yet.

GO SHARKS GO!!

It could just be that Iggy just isnt as good as he used to be. Everyone keeps talking about how he needs a centre to help him play, but there are wingers out there playing with MUCH less and doing more....

Man those Hawks are a scary team when their goaltending is working....and very exciting to watch!

Iggy is what 32 years old, they have tried for the last 10 years or more to build a contending team around him without much success, I say it's time to move on and trade him now while he still has some good value...I think the odds of Iggy suiting up in Red next year are pretty slim, what other choices does the team have...I will always be a huge Iggy fan where ever he goes

Even on Easter the odds were slim against resurrecting the Flames playoff chances...

Here is an interesting note, The Flames and Oilers are tied in goals for. With all that fire power Calgary has and all they could muster is 199 goals. haha tied for 2nd fewest goals in the league.

Ouch, i think someone's grumpy. At what exactly? The fact the Flames aren't going to make the playoffs or the fact that the future looks really dim? Or both?

Well the Oilers have hopefully hit rock bottom.....nowhere to go but up!!!
Just where does everyone think the Flames are going to go??
Getting older, nothing real great in their system and not much for draft picks....
Hmmm sounds like trouble in paradise!!!
Is a house cleaning in the works???
Well really what choice do they have??

Its time to end the Sutterites rein of terror an innefectual management of assets .... fire them both and get some younger viewpoints.....not that I want to see the Shames suceed in fact as an Oiler fan the best thing I can think is keepn the Sutters around to run that franchise into the dirt !!!

Well put!! The unfortunate thing about this game we love so much is that sometimes you need to hit rock bottom for a while just to get better! Three of the top teams in the league this year went through some very very tough times to get where they are now. Neither Edmonton or Calgary has ever seen rock bottom, it is here for one and definitely not far away for the other. I say bring it on as it will only make for better hockey in the long run!!

Flames were rock bottom for a long timmmme. 2003-2004 was when we played good.

And yet your mighty team with 20 more wins are going to miss the playoffs just like the Oilers..and thats where the two teams are different We have Eberle , Plante, Petry, Omark and MPS all in our system. And either Hall or Seguin...and the Flames have........( insert cricket sounds )

The cupboard is bare and MommaSutter has no tricks up his sleeve, near the cap and 3 assets in play Iggy Jaybo and Kipper......only Kipper is needed no one is gonna eat the underproducing Jaybo contract and so Iggy needs to be moved

But really who in there right mind wants to suit up for the Coilers these day's, It's pretty obvious what most players around the league think about this Org. Good luck with all your prospect's your going to need it, at least the Flames AHL squad is in the playoffs, how is the Coilers AHL squad doing ? oh ya there dead last in that league and won't be in the playoffs, I wonder why that is ???

I do not think they have ever hit it. The most they have ever had is 2 straight years with a top 10 pick. That is not rock bottom. They are just like the Oilers hovered around mediocracy for years and did nothing with draft picks when they had the opportunity. Oilers take Steve Kelly sixth overall one year and the Flames take Rico Fata and Daniel Tkaczuk at sixth the next two??? Some bad picks made by the Alberta teams when they had the chance to put some stock in the cupboards through the 90's!
